Finished Dragongirl. Again, not bad for a Todd only effort.
In this one, his reusing of his mother's themes is a bit more apparent, although with his own twists. Diverse sexuality has always been a theme on Pern, but this one focuses on polygamous relationships, and the feelings and work it entails for them to be successful. A hatchling needing help coming out of the shell, although with a different result, so far. Perhaps Todd is giving us the back story of why only Jaxom helped Ruth hatch, and no one else did.
Moving on to Dragon's Time, one of the last two co-authored by Anne and Todd. One more to go after that, although rumors still persist that After the Fall is Over will one day be completed, and apparently Todd's sister, Gigi, wants to do more Harper Hall stories, starting with Menolly's time as a journeyman.

Hi duke, glad you got home safely!duke wrote:Finishing off "Ender's Game". I got half way through it last December in Hawaii and put it down to finish the Last Chrons. It's an OK book, but its quite cringeworthy in places too, with the weird sexual references.
I've read this book a number of time and never picked up on 'weird sexual references'. Can you highlight a few examples? Maybe it's just your pervy Aussie mind!

I read a few books on my travels:
- Midshipman's Hope by David Feintuch
Honour Among Enemies by David Weber

Doomsday Book was good.
She's written a few with that same time-travel idea, including the duology that came out a couple of years back.

Well, I've only got about 200 pages left, and so far I've really enjoyed it. Dragging here and there doesn't bother me much, what with reading pretty fast, although I'll agree the story could have progressed a bit further in the space.Shaun das Schaf wrote:Be interested to hear what you think of The Wise Man's Fear Av. It copped a bit flak from fans. For that reason, I didn't go in expecting too much and enjoyed it. (Dragged a bit in places but I don't think it deserved the shellacking it got.)
Very pleasantly surprised by the books, I must say. When's the next one out?
