The original Drax was pretty cool. There were a couple good fights between him and Mar-vell. Drax/Thanos fights were never anything to speak of.

Does he still fly and have energy blasts? Still immutable?

During the 2006 "Annihilation" mini-series,
Drax lost some of his strength, resilience, flight,
and energy blasts. However, his intellect has returned
to its original level, and he has taken a liking to
using knives in battle.

I read Annihilation, but only the first. To much happened, and too many sequels. (Just like Infinity Gauntlet.) A few years later I started reading Warhammer 40,000 books. Some time later, I looked up the author of my favorite of those books, Dan Abnett, and realized he was the (co)writer of all the Annihilation stuff.

Wasn't Drax some sort of reanimated being programmed to fight Thanos?

Gamora was Thanos' favorite assassin, if I recall.
She's also his daughter.

I watched the trailer last night. Holy crap, it looks good! Some humor, and they called RR "Rocket", which, to me, is much better than RR. Also, Gamora is in it, something I wasn't sure about based on the still in the Tom's opening post.

I admit to having the same "Guardians of the Galaxy? WTF? Who are they again?" reaction.

Looks like this one could be a lot of fun.

Only one week to go now.

It will be almost as interesting to see if they can introduce characters most people don't know, as well as make the audience like those characters, as it will be to see the movie for itself.

Given that they were releasing movie posters for AAoU (Avengers: Age of Ulton) at the ComicCon this week, $5 says the after-credit blurb is an Avengers teaser. I suspect we'll see Ultron be brought online. The only thing I don't know right now is how AoU will tie in to the Infinity plot arc.

What do you think the chance is they'll put in a full Avengers trailer, like they did at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger? Is it too far out from release for that?

AoU release date is 1 May 2015, which will be 9 months after GotG. That is far enough in the future that an official trailer isn't ready but there may be enough footage for a teaser trailer.

By the way, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 already has its green light and a release date: 28 July 2017.

Early reviews for GotG are very positive. 96% so far at Rotten Tomatoes (28 reviews). AintItCool has some very nice reviews for the comic geek crowd.

I think I am taking the girls to see this next week. They loved the crap out of Avengers. And this one has a cute-n-fuzzy. :)

So far it has made just about $225 million. Its budget is listed at $170 million and no one turns down a 32.35% profit margin. This doesn't count the merchandising bump that will happen this holiday season: Star Lord and Groot masks for Halloween, Gamora body paint (yowza), action figures, etc.
