Good luck with your shots, Sarge.
I am up right now because with my new CGM (continous glucose monitor), I've had a bitch of a time controlling my blood sugar level overnight. Tonight is a good example. I was really high because I decided to have a shake with the kids before I go away for a week, so I took some insulin to bring that down. Well, apparently it did too good a job because I "bottomed out" (went way too low) so my monitor woke me up so I could come down and get some food to counteract the low level (I dropped roughly 200 points in a little over 2 hours) before it really gets too low. Has happened every second or third night since I got this thing, sometimes without the extra shot of insulin, and many times went I was not too high to begin with. Been very difficult to control.
The battle rages on...

Good to hear, Sarge.

I'm glad there's a three-day weekend at the end of this week. It'll be crazy after that -- I've picked up another partner temporarily and am supposed to start working for someone in New Business next week. That last one makes me a little nervous. I've had some dealings with her in the past, and she tends to treat most things like a fire drill. I suspect I'll be spending a fair amount of time calming her down.
Still no definitive word on additional staffing for the Denver office. Sigh...

You should take one.Sorus wrote:I need a vacation...

Maybe you've made yourself too valuable. Slack.

Why not just ask to go to denver?aliantha wrote:That's the next tactic on my list.Cagliostro wrote:Kick 'em.aliantha wrote: Still no definitive word on additional staffing for the Denver office. Sigh...
Maybe you've made yourself too valuable. Slack.I knew it was gonna be a mistake to tell the secretarial manager I was bored, but I went and did it anyway.
I was hoping maybe it would prompt her to figure out a way to get me to Denver and out of her hair, but instead she's loading me up with other people to work for.

Because the office right now is very small -- just one attorney and his secretary. It's been open for less than a year and we're having to build a practice there from the ground up. I've told Secretarial several times now that I want to be transferred out there when something comes available. And I'm keeping an eye on the internal job postings. But that's all I can do right now.

If only I could. Over a month of vacation time gathering dust because they won't let me take it.aliantha wrote:

You went looking for trouble telling the manager that.aliantha wrote:That's the next tactic on my list.Cagliostro wrote:Kick 'em.aliantha wrote: Still no definitive word on additional staffing for the Denver office. Sigh...

Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a good carpenter to build one.

What's annoying is that the partners spend a fair amount of time working with the associate attorneys -- getting them training, making sure their work is challenging, giving them more responsibility as they gain more experience, etc. There's a career path for 'em, in other words. But for secretaries, the only career path is into a different department where there's an actual opportunity for advancement. If you don't want to do that, they just give you more people to work for.

What I need is a different job, I guess. I've got options, but they're either impractical or unappealing. Bleah. I'll quit whining now...

Had kind of a strange evening.
I've got a bit of a cold, and today my nose was running like crazy. I took an antihistamine to stop that around 9 or 10am this morning, then spent the afternoon tired and headachy because of the side effects. When I got home I read for a little while but then stopped and decided to have a lie down on the couch for a bit.
When I woke up, I was groggy and disoriented and fully convinced it was tomorrow morning. The clock said 6:30, so I thought I'd luckily woken up at a time I'd still be able to get ready and go to work; I was confused about how I'd managed to sleep for 13 hours, in my clothes, on the couch, and missed dinner. I even started to tweet about how weird it was that I'd slept all through the night like that. It was only when I realised my phone didn't show any sign of my alarm having gone off that I looked at its clock and saw 18:40, and realised I'd only been asleep for about an hour and a half.
I had almost gotten undressed and taken a shower, and had been thinking about my breakfast and sorting out sandwiches for lunch.
