We're 26th on a Google search for 'Stephen R Donaldson', the highest ranking I have seen us at yet.

The ranking seems to vary, and over the last week I have seen us as low as 30th. I'll take 26th though!

We should aim to try and get ourselves solidly established on the 2nd page of the seach, so get linking guys!

...or even just search for various Donaldson terms and then only click on links for this site...

I think that helps the ranking of a site too.

We'd still need that hub page; it serves as one of those standards younger audiences in particular expect from a fan site. Why did the original Kevin's Watch with all the extra material get torn down anyway? :/

I believe it was because it was part of a University site/server/something and after Jay was unable to finish any of the books in his literature classes, the University wasn't going to let him keep using their resources.

How hard would it be to recreate? Where did all the material (cover galleries, etc.) go?
I created this a bit over a year back, but have lacked the inspiration to update and expand it to include other topics. I have plenty of unused webspace on my domain.

That's not bad :D

I think we would need to find out who owns the Kevinswatch domain name... shouldn't be too hard to do, it would be registered in one of those site...things... I forget what they're called. Any way, looks like whoever got it got it through Domain.com LLC... until September 28, 2017. This just means that whoever owns it now (Vain, Jay, Danlo, Hashi?) did it through that company.

Oh yeah guys...y'all know that there's not really a "1st" page of Google anymore, right? At least, not one that's the same for everybody. ;)

Quick Facts:
-Yes, I own kevinswatch.com.
-Yes, it used to be a more content-filled fan site.
-I took it down, mainly out of embarrassment. Most of the content on there was tripe and/or out of date.
-I still have it on a drive somewhere, but have no interest in bringing it back.
-Since the message board was the most active part, it made sense to just link kevinswatch.com to the message board.
-Speaking of which, Vain owns the message board and the server it's on.
-Probably the only cool content-related thing that I had on the old site was a gallery of all of the covers in the Chronicles. I think I had pretty much all of them.

That help?

A couple pages on the .com with a gallery of the covers, (maybe a little intro on each set) and a page about SRD, and a prominent link to the forum probably wouldn't hurt at all.

Mmh I'd like to see what the dump contains. The hub went down shortly after I joined and remains as a complete void in my memory.
Could you for instance zip it and upload to some file-sharing platform (I use Google Drive a great deal).

Another larger endeavor: could Jay update the Store items (we ought to create new ones as well, as it appears we're not yet migrating away from this forum software)? Effy fashioned some new ones back in 2011 and even those never ended up there. We could set up a list of suggestions; there's almost nothing concerning the Last Chrons for instance.

Domain redirections are another matter. Something tangible must be up ere such considerations.

I just realised something so obvious I wonder why I didn't before, re: search engine relevance. We have a section on this board called "SRD Forums". We have forum descriptions that talk about "SRD's works".

Can Av maybe change those to use his full name? I don't mean the Gen SRD forum (that's too long already), but the category title and the descriptions.

I stil think there should be something more prominent at the top of the forum index that says what this board is about. The only mention of Donaldon's name or his books visible without scrolling down is the tiny text in the KEVINSWATCH image.

[Can I go off at a tangent briefly guys; there is some stuff on my 'Dictionary of the Khazars' thread (my analysis to Ali {mainly} of five or six readings of that puzzling enigma of a book) that I've put a shed load of thought into - but do not have coppied anywhere else. This is silly; presumably Kevins Watch pages can be printed out like any other stuff on a computer screen in the normal manner - can they? {if not I need to get writing!}]

You should be able to print through your browser, peter. Which one are you using? On Firefox and Chrome the Menu Button (small icon with three horizontal lines) in the top right-hand corner should give you the option of printing. The other option, of course, is just to copy and paste the relevant posts and stick them in a word document. There are further options again (such as using the Prt Scr function on your keyboard), so the lasting you should have to do is type them out again ;)

This has the benefit of printing the text you want, without all the forum graphics and background colors, and other posts on the same page. And you can save it onto your computer as well.

I use 'Internet Explorer' I think - it's getting really dated but I seem always to have trouble trying to download a more up to date one. In truth my 'machine' is starting to show it's age and is probably ready for replacement, but it's like your first car - you've had so much fun together.....

Copy and pasting sounds the thing to me but where the heart might be willing but the flesh is weak ..... ie I don't know how to do it.

I don't quite believe that I am about to write this. I mean, it's one of the most basic, fundamental functions of word processors that I would have assumed every person who has even touched a computer knows how to do. Nevertheless...

1) Select the text
2) Either:
--a) Right click, click "copy"; or
--b) Press Ctrl+C
3) Go to the document where you want to put the text.
4) Either:
--a) Right click, click "paste"; or
--b) Press Ctrl+V

Et voila.
