Must just be my computer, then. Which wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Oh, right -- Exploder. We're running v. 9.0.26 at work. IS claims it's because we have some older integrated programs that don't work with the newest version (which, for those playing along at home, is IE 11.  )

At least you have v. 9, at my work it's v. 8.

That is because ms likes to do their own thing in an attempt to push competitors out of the market. It did not work vs netkit for home users (though it worked fairly well for enterprise level stuff, but then you have the stuck on old versions issues) but directx vs opengl was a huge success.

Orlion -- and I thought *we* were bad.

Ananda -- Yup, you're right. We used XP here at work 'til Microsoft refused to support it anymore.... Our tech people did finally allow us to download Chrome at work, which is what I'm using right now.

Could you for instance zip it and upload to some file-sharing platform (I use Google Drive a great deal).

Another larger endeavor: could Jay update the Store items (we ought to create new ones as well, as it appears we're not yet migrating away from this forum software)? Effy fashioned some new ones back in 2011 and even those never ended up there. We could set up a list of suggestions; there's almost nothing concerning the Last Chrons for instance.

Hallo?
You have to wait for Jay to be back to get an answer. :D And who the hell knows when that will be? ;) This has been a period of unusual activity for him...maybe he's tired now. ;)

What was the question again? :P

1) About the old items...sure? Where the heck are they?

2) I'm glad to update and add any new items...but I think I forgot how to access the server to upload new images...doh!

I'll try to play around with it more sometime when I have time.

I think the other request was for the old www.kevinswatch.com homepage design. We might be able to find a new home for it, and the idea is that with that url active again, we would show up higher on Google searches.

That's how I understand it, anyway :P

That's an excellent idea.

So, you going to go ahead and do this, Av? We have a home page that doesn't say the words "Stephen R Donaldson" anywhere on it (in text)!

I got 15 tabs open in FF now, and it's using 350kb.

Got 9 open in Chrome, and it's using about 440. Also (what I hate) is every fecking tab is a separate process.
Do you use any addons to prevent things loading that you don't need? Both Firefox and Chrome have addons that can prevent advertising from loading, or let you decide on which scripts run on the site.

It can make a big difference to how responsive a site is.

Pretty much, although we don't need a new home, we just have to upload a new version and turn off the redirect.

The new version will of course have a prominent link to the forum, and should be full of useful, unique content about SRD and his books etc.

Hell, Jay could even put a very few tasteful ads up on it for the books and get something toward the hosting costs. (No, there is no need for anybody to offer to donate, thank you for asking. ;) )

I block ads, although I'm not sure it stops them from loading, rather than displaying. But I don't have much trouble with site's responsiveness. Just Chrome being a resource hog. ;)

:| And I logged in this morning specifically to come and do it. ;) Never mind, I see a spot or two in the descriptions where we can add it. I'll do those. ;)

While you're at it, we seem to be missing the words "of Thomas Covenant" from a few forum names. ;)

Edit: Man, you beat me to it. It was changed between me looking at the index and posting this!

We're well on target to bust 4000+ posts this month, so for anyone who likes that idea, postasorus!

Could I ask people to check their results for a search for 'Stephen R Donaldson' to find out where the Watch ranks? Just to see if the things that we've been doing to improve our ranking have worked. I can't check it 'cos, if I understand Av correctly, Google tailors its results according to my preferences (the Watch is currently on the first page as the 8th result).

Second result on second page. I have Firefox set to avoid tracking and automatically clear history, but I have my suspicions as to how well that works. (I get a lot of ads for cat supplies. Robots are sneaky.)

Post-a-Sorus?

How does one do that? Do I want to know?

Thanks, Sorus! That's a good ranking, either way.

Postasorus has many, many possible implications/interpretations.

You could post until you are sor(e)us.

You could be a centre for posting a-la Toysorus.

You could be regenerated Jurassic Park dinosaur-typeosorus.

I've no doubt that other can come up with an infinitude of others!
