I have a color Nook, but I prefer the eInk screen for just reading. And now I've got an iPad and prefer that for just about everything *but* reading (and the stuff I have to do on a bigger screen). Sorry, Android. :(

I got my original Kindle Dec 2010, so it lasted about 4 years... yeah a bit less than I figured. I kept very good care of it, so Im surprised it died.

WF the screen is about the same size the overall size is smaller so I dont feel like I'm holding on to anything. And its much lighter.

Time will tell on how long it will last.

I originally didn't want a Kindle and wanted to keep buying books. Then my wife bought me a Kindle for Christmas in 2010.... After I found out how nice it was to just buy your book and start reading right away without having to go to a brick and morter, plus the books are so much less expensive...I never looked back.

Thanks, SB. That's what I figured, but it's good to know someone who can say for sure.

My Kindle lasted from 2011 to last week. So it only lasted 3 years.

But then again, back in '12 I tried to read the Gormenghast trilogy. That adds years on a device, I will tell you.

I tell you what -- I read the final Malazan book on the Kindle and it was a *much* nicer experience than hauling around a dead-tree doorstop.

That reminds me: I have the entire Wheel of Time series on my tablet. I haven't tried to open the file yet... (Yes, it's all 13 books in one document.)

In Jos, the only books are (1) religious bookshops, which can have a surprisingly good selection if that's what you're after, or (2) used novels and nonfiction, most of them shabby and overpriced ($10 or more for a Tom Clancy, for instance). Forget finding anything but bestsellers. Therefore e-books are my only option when I want to buy a book in Nigeria. It is nice to carry around the entire Game of Thrones series, for example, without breaking my arm. I also have 4 Bibles, so I can carry it to church services and use it for that as well.

I hated that book and wished I had a physical copy to trash after finishing it.

What, hitting "delete" it just doesn't have that same satisfaction? :)

If you want the honest truth, until I read your comment I had never considered deleting anything off my Kindle. I haven't run into space issues yet and I hadn't ever thought of doing that!

Looks like your file is missing one book, and I'm not talking about that atrocious prequel :ct02:

Don't expect me to remember how many books were in that series. I haven't read one since 11 came out. I just got the series free in the Hugo voters' packet.

I don't have a Kindle. Or a Nook. I do most of my reading on the Sabbath, when I can't use electronics. However I do appreciate the ability to put books on my iPad for reading when I'm traveling or having a lunch break at work.

I now have a lovely Paperwhite. I will use it for a bit, and then see if I was wrong to worry so much. You all shall know.

Purist.

In my own way, I try to walk a line of not being ruled by my electronic devices, as well..
