Hahaha, I thought that went without saying. ;) (Couple of years ago, I threw out all my socks and replaced them with 20 identical pairs. That way they always match.)

Why is Jamie Oliver called 'The Naked Chef'? He isn't a chef and I've never seen him naked.

1) Yes he is, and 2) the "naked" was metaphorical.

What amazes me about socks is how they manage to take the same time to dry as a pullover, or even a pair of denims. How is this possible!!!

Which makes me think that if I were to ever need to walk cross a desert, instead of carrying a heavy burdensome canteen, a few wet socks in a polythene bag should do the trick.

I was getting my laundry from the community laundry room the other day and some guy was telling me about how if you turn your jeans inside out before you dry them they dry faster.

How does that work? Is there not still the same amount of water in there?

Could it be that the 'warp and weft' of the material is fractionally more open on the inner side than the outer; That way 'pockets' of water that would otherwise sit in an 'internal micro-climate' would be exposed to the wind first and would dry the quicker. The 'wicking' effect of the matereal drawing the water from the inner [outer] side to the outer [inner] side would then complete the trick. It's just an idea ;).

Could be. If my wife were here, I'd ask her [she's got science degree AND costume degree/job.] I do know [and y'all can check your stuff and see it]
that all fabrics have a "good side" and a "bad side." The physical differences are more significant with "natural" fibers things---cotton, wool, and such.

It is also said that putting a completely dry towel in the dryer with your wet clothes will make them dry faster.

That would have to be because the humidity of the air in the dryer would rise and some of this vapour would be absorbed/adsorbed into/onto the dry towel. The spreading of the water over a wider surface area would then facilitate it's faster evaporation as a whole - wouldn't it?.

[Damn I'm good today! ;)]

Obama and Cameron stand together today in paying tribute to the late King of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Saud.

Would that they had shown as much single-mindedness in condemning the treatment of writer and activist Raif Badawi [sentenced to a weekly dose of fifty lashes in public for 20 cosecutive weeks for poking fun at the State in his blog] or indeed Burmese immigrant Laila Bint Basim [publically beheaded in Mecca for the murder of her six year old step-daughter and held down by four guards while screaming her innocence as the blade fell].

[re below; Thanks Av.]

Fun thought experiment: would things in the Mid-east be different if we had all hugs and kisses with Afghanistan and Iraq, and invaded Pakistan and Saudi Arabia?
Not really much...and perhaps for the good. Those two sponsor much more outside terrorism, we'd have the Saudi's oil, and could have taken away the WMD's [the real kind---freaking nukes] that Pakistan actually has.

I don't approve, in case you can't tell...;) I understand the eco/geopolitics of it. But I don't approve.
