Sick of the religious/science threads

I agree with Joy and Durris and Ur-Vile and the Dutchess, and I think a new forum would be swell. Those interested in it would most likely frequent it, and those who are tired of that kind of thing could just avoid it, not check threads to see if anything different is in them and so on. After all, religion is more than just "general discussion." So people know what it is, how about just a descriptive title (I'm feeling creative), like Religious/Spiritual Discussion?

I reckon a new forum would be capital. I also think I need to back off from these debates for 2 reasons: 1. I'm getting angry at Zeph lately, which is, to be honest, not entirely right considering I respect his opinions still and think of him as a friend here;
2. I get too passionate when these debates are brought in and forget where I am - to appreciate the work of SRD.

I guess I don't care. Make another forum. But if someone posts here, then it gets moved??? If that is true, then please move all of chainlink's one-liners to the hall of gifts or something.

Also, I think we need a new forum for farm machinery. Farm machinery isn't exactly general you know.

And we also should have a new forum for talking about time. Anything that has to do with time should go in the new forum entitled "TIME". I mean time is not exactly general, right. Time is time. There should be a forum for it.

We should also have a forum for anyone that wants to talk about current events. Current Events are not general, they are "Current Events". I think we need a new forum for that.

We should also have a new forum for Christmas Presents. Christmas is a long way away, but I don't like how Christmas is all about retail and material happiness, so we should put it into it's own forum so that I don't get sick of it when Christmas comes around. Hey, I'm just being a forward thinker!

I think that we should also have a new forum for new forums. I mean, hey, we can't have too many forums, and that would be a good place to talk about having new forums placed. WOW! Maybe one day we could have more forums than we have topics!!!!!

Now that was just childish. Religion/science are proving to have a lot of discussion, farm machinery does not a have a lot of discussion. That kind of juvenile sarcasm does nothing to get your point across, it just makes you sound petulant.

Let me get this straight, making it illegal to post threads about religious beliefs in the general forum is okay, but pointing out that it's heavy-handed is childish?????

It's not making it illegal. The point is, we're getting a lot of Religion/Science threads in General Discussion, and they're starting to take up space. Providing another place for these will allow General Discussion to get back to General Discussion, while also allowing the debates to continue.

Exactly, at the moment General Dis is becoming a religion forum, regardless of title. So it seems sensible to have a seperate religion/spiritual etc forum, so this can get back to being a forum for miscellaneous knick knacks.

No, I wasn't messing with you, Zeph, and I apologise for my bluntness (though you often declare yourself an advocate of direct speech) but I'm getting tired of you rolling out the elephant-subtle sarcasm whenever you read a suggestion you don't agree with. You can make it known that you disagree, and even that you find the whole idea ludicrous, without resorting to playground mockery.

And my friend I'm stating that disregarding religious talk & tossing it to another forum is against freespeech.

We should encourage talking free, even it is dangerous and scary~!

And alas, I have said that I would be reducing the amount of God threads in time to my desire to see people talking about it.

To dwindle me down to a lesser audience is not a very acceptable alternative. It is to say, we can talk about anything but religion here. And I find that to be extremely closed minded. I'm willing and able to reduce the amount of threads of science vs. religion threads that I create. and I guess that this cruel posting has then served it's purpose. But to blanket state my views to a lesser viewed public is to be arrogant and against the freespeech of religion.

At any rate, let it go, I'll post my threads less than once a week & things will be fine. BESIDES, just because you see a thread about science in the general forum doesn't mean you are required to post to it.

Bottom line, I will be extremely dissasified to see a forum made for this becuase I see it as a blatent cover up to reduce visibility. I mean it's so obvious and arrogant that I cannot beleive it is really being discussed here. This is the watch. Are we not able to handle other people's viewpoints, or has this really all along been about the accepted clientele? I'm extremely surprised at the willingness to reduce Christian or other religion away from General topics. It is sickening & reminds me of fascism. If you don't like it, then get the hell out! NEXT!

I'm saddened.

And of course the reason we have Hile Troy's Think Tank is because we hate seeing people talk openly about politics, right?
And Vesper's is to stop blatant discussion of music, yes?
It's just convenient, Zeph, to have the Watch organised into different subjects if they're quite active.

Actually, even one of the Christian boards I go to, the Badger's Den, has a seperate forum for vigorous debate about Christianity - complete with a little warning not to enter unless you are prepared to argue righteously.

They call it the Inferno:

I look upto you a lot murrin, I really do, but it's not a good thing to gag people and put them on a smaller shelf simply because people aren't willing to deal with something.

I already said I'd back off somewhat, that should be enough.

I will be *EXTREMELY* disturbed to see this processed and a forum created when it is *ALREADY* handled and I've stated that I will bow out & post less about what I think is the most important thing in all life.

I'm beginning to get angry about all this. I don't want to get angry. I've been a great sport recently. I'm starting to get pissed off.

This is about freespeech. I've been careful recently. YOu asked me to drop it down a notch, I'm asking you to drop it down a notch. We can all be friends and have fun here. Don't eliminate my enjoyment by my occasional posts which will now be occasional instead of constant.

I'm asking you to drop back a step, look at me, and think about this. I'm stepping back. I would like it if you would also step back. Just look at it. Look at the last Religious post made, was there trouble? no. I was good & I maintained a good attitude. So chill out with the changing of my views to a different forum. When I post something, I want the most people to look at it as possible. Diminishing me is arrogance. My previous behavior was arrogance. Let's all just settle down & realize that God talk should be a part of general talk as long as it isn't consuming too much of the topics. I'll keep it down to a minimum. But placing God talk to a lesser viewed topic area is to say, "we can talk about anything here except your stupid God". and that's wrong.

So just let it be. I'll post less sci-fi vs. reality and we'll all be happier.

Zeph, I really don't see what the big deal is. I think you're overreacting. We arn't creating a Religion Forum to shun it... We're making it because religion topics are becoming a large focus in the General Forum, and the General Forum isn't really meant for heated debates like that. It's supposed to be more light and random. If anything, a Religion Forum will invite more open discussion into religion, as opposed to here, where you have to worry about people feeling uncomfortable. So yeah, stop acting like it's violating free speech, which is silly. If we wanted to violate your free speech and stop all religious topics, we would just make a board-wide policy of deleting them all...-jay

Zeph, nobody is calling God stupid or insulting anybody's religion, and, secondly, by placing it in another forum we're only organizing things. This isn't about free speech in the least.

Jay, if you do make a religious debate forum, I humbly suggest not putting the religion forum in the Collective but right under General Discussion, so it will be on the front page of the index instead of behind another link. Ya know, just make it more accessible. Perhaps that will keep it from being "lesser viewed", you think? Just my two cents.

The new Forums are a good idea, but I think the Collective's getting a bit too big - how about splitting it (not sure how this would be done, but perhaps involving grouping together Films, Computer Games, TV, and Music)?

BTW, maybe you should move this discussion to the "new religion forum", because someone said the G word, you know "God". Oh no, I Just said it again. Hurry up mods & do your job & put this over in the "new religion forum", you know... just not here in the general area where it will get looked at. Please move it so that no one sees the word "God". They might get offended.

Get over it, Zeph. Many boards have a forum devoted specifically to spirituality. You've seen the one at Ahira's Hangar. My board has had one since its inception. It's only an organizational tool. Would you want to see me posting hundreds of topics on the greatness of Lucifer, Wiccan rituals, arguments for why God might not exist, or even something that is important to me, a bunch of Zen quotes. No, because Gen Discussion isn't really the place for a very specific type of discourse. You have to overcome your own self-importance and realize just because you post mainly to Gen Discussion, doesn't mean everybody else does.

Zeph, I have the feeling that you believe if people see the word "God" they're offended by it and by moving a religious thread to the religious discussion forum, we're censoring it. That is a misconception.
