I push a giant boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back down to the bottom every day.

Actually I do inventory and merchandising, which is nearly the same thing, I just wanted an excuse to work Sisyphean into a sentence. It's the busiest time of year for me, and most people in my position receive extra help. I, on the other hand, am currently lacking my minion. I also came in to work today to find that half my workspace had been t-r-a-s-h-e-d by a coworker who had clearly not given a moment of thought to how it would affect me. I have a headache, a backache, and another week of this to look forward to.

We had a summer storm here that ran late into the night. Fork lightning lit up the city like day. Our tower block was hit, I believe, twice.

I was stood in the patio doorway watching the spectacle and listening to the cooling thunder of the rain when a finger of lightning flickered in front what seemed too close for comfort.
Then a bit later, another. Only this one gave a crack like an almighty whip. I don't mind telling ya that I leapt in crouching down beneath the kitchen window as to not witness any more of the terrifying force - too near, too far.

Like the Mother of all Storms, it sure was fun.

I love a good rainstorm. They are few and far between here, especially these days.

I feel drained of energy this evening.
My flat was very untidy. More untidy than I realized when I set to the task of straightening things out.

I found lots of crystals, and semi-precious stones, left neglected behind heaps of paper paraphernalia. So I spent a relaxing hour or two cleansing them under running water.
It's amazing just how much they can fill the room with freshness and light.

An unexpected visitor chapped my door. A neighbour from several floors below wishing to help his son see the view from the top floor. It was no trouble to let them in for a few moments.

Glad to have tidied up.

I always feel better when my living space is clean and decluttered.

Dreading tomorrow. Having made An Issue of the disaster my coworkers made of my workspace, there is a good chance I will find things exponentially worse tomorrow. Sometimes you just can't win...

Oh meh. Monday again. And I had no weekend whatsoever. The GF's cousin got married on Saturday, and we got suckered into attending.

That means Friday afternoon was shopping and hairdresser (for the GF obviously), then Saturday we flew down to the coast. Missed the flight and had to pay extra to go on standby for the next one.

Got that one luckily (and as a result perhaps luckily missed the entire wedding service), flew down, rented a car, drove to the hotel and checked in, then drove to the reception venue, nearly 3 hours late.

Saturday night, drove back to the hotel for a few hours broken sleep, then back to the airport early in the morning, , returned rental, flew back to JHB, and drove home. Roughest 24 hours I've had in a long time.

Need a weekend desperately.

I totally hear that, Av. While weekend activities can be fun, it's rather exhausting to not have a weekend to just hang out and not run around doing stuff. My last few weekends have been ones with activities, as well. And next weekend I'm working on Sunday. So at least another two weeks till I get a real weekend.

Well, today was about what I expected.

I'm also over-caffeinated and have a rather offensive song stuck in my head. I don't sing - not even in the shower - and the world should be grateful for that right now.

idiot captain quit but before she did she left us extremely short-handed by giving two different people two weeks off while her second is in a week of inservice.

between the humidity and the cold of the vaults got sicker.

Hello all. I've been busy and haven't been getting notifications so forgot to visit the Watch! But now I'm back. This is my third post tonight!

Sarge, sorry you are feeling poorly again.

Heard tonight that my brother in law suffered a minor stroke on Saturday. He's OK, slight vision impairment and confusion but the latter should heal. His vision may not completely improve. He comes out of hospital tomorrow.

I'm having a week off from the archives to watch the second week of Wimbledon. Too much time to do nothing in - I prefer being busier. Have a gardener coming tomorrow to look at the mess that I call my garden. Don't seem to have the impetus to do it myself these days.

That's it, no more news.

Well, I'm going to try to cut soda out of my diet... it's going to suck, and many will perish as a result, but my health and well-being is worth a few hundred lives

I gave up caffeine for quite some time last year - the stress level at work gets so high that I get chain-reaction panic attacks, and I thought my caffeine intake might not be helping the anxiety levels. It didn't change anything, which is good because caffeine makes me a better person - and bad, because finding an easy way of reducing stress would be really nice. It's actually not as bad this year. Maybe I'm getting used to it. It's amazing what human beings can adapt to and even start to consider normal. I have applied for a couple of jobs that I really want and am even qualified for, but it's still rough out there.

Great tennis today, watched all afternoon and most of the evening. Got some family history done too, couple more wills typed up.

well, sad news.

Sonny (our dog of his 14 years on earth) has been of failing health. really downhill the past two weeks. he can no longer get in and out of bed all the time by himself. has trouble with plumbing issues. and the worst of all is that his back legs are giving out constantly.

he ends up on the floor, unable to get up and crying. we are afraid that if I weren't home sick this week with him he would end up stuck on the floor all day long, scared and alone.

so on Friday we are taking him out to the beach in the morning, a lunch at the fastfood restaurant of his choice. he likes the hamburgers at mcdonalds. and then a friend at animal control will help end his pain that afternoon. our last chance to take many pictures of our sweet boy.

I have the gas company coming out tomorrow to mark the gasline so I can dig a grave. I need to pick up quicklime as well.

this has been very hard on Julie. (ok, on me too) but someone has to do what has to be done.

prayers and hugs welcomed. I will be setting up a tribute page here. I appreciate your indulgence in this. but I want Julie to have a place of good memories here. thank you.

he is the best dog I have ever had. the smartest and bravest. and the most loving. I hate having to do this. it breaks my heart.

Sarge, I feel your pain. We had the same issue with Charlie, the dog we had before Sammy. He was supposed to go to the vet to be "put down" but he was so weak we had the vet come here and he died peacefully with his head on my lap and me stroking him. It is the kindest possible way for him, although very sad for you.
