It came out sounding different than I intended, so I fixed it. At least there's an edit function here. . . I don't seem to need one in real life as often, but here I fire off a reply, then realize that people might not *get* my tone.

I certainly didn't mean to be insulting. Now I must read a poem or two before I can comment.

Ah.. . I remember those! I liked them, and can't figue out why I didn't post a response to more than just the one of them.

What I was aiming to say before I tripped myself in my own words was that I have a habit of taking a word and changing it's meaning to fit into the context, by altering the part of speech or shading it with a new meaning, or even make the subject unexpected. For example:

Still too close—your voice
Aches my heart.

Or

My mouth apologizes,
Then we embrace one last, first time.

My point being, I didn't think you were the kind of person to bend those rules so freely as I do.

My best friend and I both earned degrees in English Literature, and after having people constantly tell us not to critque their grammar, or worse, having people expect us to speak grammatically perfect English 100% of the time we decided this: since we had done the hard work of learning all of the rules and such, we had earned the right to bend them slightly as we see fit.

As for me, one of my mentors was an English poet who writes in the modern (nearly abstract) style, and I know that some of his ways have rubbed off on me.
