Thats great news Av. I'm five books into my first ever complete read through and even as I read the 2nd Chrons I find myself trying to 'fit' what I'm reading with what I know is coming in the third.

What would happen if we just unlocked the existing "The Last Chronicles" forum, so that people could post there?

Damn, I thought that was a really good idea at first read WF, but I'm not so sure...

Can't have the "full spoilers" description for that, and the "no spoilers" for the subforums description.

Also, the new forum is meant to be for all the Chrons, not just the last ones.

Separate forum for the whole series, then? Would that solve the problem?

Yea.

Bah! I like things how they are, and see no need to make this change.

I'm fine with this, though I'd also be in favour of having two forums, one for 1st & 2nd Chrons and one for the Last Chrons.

For the record, I also still advocate this plan for major merging and rearrangement of the whole forum index (note: link only viewable to mods). Note that a few changes were decided upon that never happened. ;) The Chronicles Art Gallery and the TC Movie forums are just wasting index space these days, btw. Scrolling is the enemy of user engagement.

(It's also funny rereading that to see Av arguing quite strongly against the merging of the Last Chrons forums into a single big forum.)

Please make it so.

I really see no difference between Murrin's "Last Chrons" forum and Ali's "Whole Series" forum. But maybe it's all in the name?

Can we rename the current "The Last Chronicles" forum?

Then we could have:

SRD Forums
- The First and Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
- The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (we are adding this)
- The Books of the Last Chronicles (renaming this)
- - Sub-Forums: The Runes of the Earth, Fatal Revenant, Against All Things Ending, The Last Dark

How is this different from what is currently in place?

wayfriend, I believe what's proposed here is a "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" forum, not a "Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" forum.

The "(we are adding this)" and the "(renaming this)" indicate what is changed.

As I said, either way - Last Chronicles or All Chronicles. The contents will be the same regardless. I just picked one for the sake of example above.

... but now I have to say, "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" is the name of the first Chronicles. That sounds misleading. Needs tweaking.

Wait, wait... we're adding another forum for the full series, in addition to the existing ones? I thought we were talking about just shoving them all into one combined spot.

I still see see some utility in having the existing 1st & 2nd Forum, where Last Chron spoilers are verboten, and book-by-book LC fora so that readers can lead up to the climax relatively unspoiled, as well as a wide-open forum where the entire epic can be discussed from whichever angle without restriction.

Yeah, but with subforums not working right that'd involve making the forum index even longer than it is now, and there are already too many mostly dead forums cluttering things.

If we do that, there will forever after be no way to avoid spoilers.

WF, not renaming anything. (Supposedly) adding one forum for combined discussion of all Chrons in one.

Doesn't that just confuse the issue of where to post things? Say you've read all the books, and want to post about something from the First Chrons. Do you post in the 1st & 2nd Chrons forum, or in the Full Chrons forum?

Now that the full series is out in mass market, I don't think there's a real need to keep the Last Chrons as separate books for the few people who are mid-series. Keep the 1st & 2nd Chrons and add a combined Last Chrons, leave it at that.
