I don't know, I thought Eric Bana did a good job of being angry.

Seriously though, he did.
Personally, I thought the CGI Hulk showed a greater range of emotion than Bana did.

There was an episode in the cartoon Jimmy Neutron where Jimmy was the Hulk that held my interest more than the Hulk movie.

Seriously, how tough should it have been to make a fun Hulk movie that everyone from adults to little kids could enjoy?
Just keep it simple!

Here's mine:

Gamma radiation accident of some kind where both Banner and mysterious "other" get exposed - Banner gets angry - things break- the Abomination threatens Betty- in trying to get away Betty breaks one of the heels of her shoes and trips - the Abomination gets beat by the Hulk- Hulk takes Betty to swamp where they are soon threatened by....I don't know...The Glob!!- The fight ends in a tie and Hulk takes Betty back to the desert where he is captured by the Hulk Busters - He almost loses but is saved by Betty somehow- then Hulk jumps away in to the Sunset........

But no...........!
We get something super serious with a total dumbass ending that reminded me of the part in Dumbo when Dumbo gets drunk!
Arrghhghg!!

They are making another Hulk movie, and word is they plan to act like the first movie never happened.....which is too bad only in the sence that I do think they cast Betty and "Thunderbolt" Ross well, and the CGI Hulk was kickin'.

I wasn't keen on the face of the CGI Hulk. Too cartoony for my liking. Cartoony is fine in cartoon, but it looks weird alongside real stuff.

As for Bana, I just like him, so maybe I'm biased. He is an excellent actor when he has something to work with. See Chopper for details.

I liked Lee's Hulk movie. It's dark and artistic and it explores stuff about being human. It's a wonderful melancholy Hulk.

The problem is, this isn't what a superhero movie is supposed to be. It's supposed to be fun and make you cheer for the hero. So that's where it went wrong. If you go into it as an adultish fantasy movie, it's quite enjoyable; if you go into it looking for a superhero movie, you're let down.

In a real superhero movie, at the end the Hulk would kicked the snot out of the army dudes instead of having some sort of oedipal father-killing psycho-battle.

Maybe you two should get a room. Anyway, Bana certainly didn't hurt the film; I guess my real complaint (that his performance wasn't able to overcome the many weak points of the film) is unfair to him.

Well, it sort of is like the Hulk comic, as they've been exploring Banner's various psychoses since Peter David started writing for the book in the late '80's. Unfortunately, the film wasn't able to strike balance between self-exploration and cool, action-filled battle scenes that the book has. I think Banner's Dad/Absorbing Man/Zaxx character is perfect example of a film trying to do too much.

Not just 'why?', null. 'Who?' and 'How many?' are also questions most people would ask if the picked up the current issue of Incredible Hulk now, especially if they haven't read the comic in a while. For those of you without a scorecard, there are several Hulks now. I was trying to ignore this, but a recent $0.50 sale suckered me into what may have been an unwise decision, picking up the latest issues of Incredible Hulk. I quit subscribing about a year and a half ago, so I was quite surprised to see the changes to the title. Anyway, the several hulks are as follows:

The Hulk/Bruce Banner
The Red Hulk/General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross
She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters
Red She-Hulk/Betty Ross
Skaar/Son of Hulk
Lyra/Daughter of Hulk and Thundra (WTF?)
A-Bomb/Rick Jones

The Leader and MODOCK came to the conclusion that all who were present at the original Gamma Bomb tests were prime subjects for transforming into Hulks, so they experimented on Rick Jones and made him an abomination-type character. Dr. Samson and MODOCK were heading (yet another) Super-soldier project, and turned Thunderbolt and Betty Ross into red Hulks. Skaar is the son of the Hulk and his 2nd wife, Caiera, who is queen of Sakaar, a world Reed Richards and his Illuminati pals decided to ship the Hulk off to a while back. Apparently the Hulk banged Thundra in some alternate future, and their daughter Lyra somehow found herself on earth, in the present. I'm sure all of this was explained in the World War Hulk series, but I didn't buy all that, so who knows.

A-Bomb is just stupid.

I'm actually reading the Batman vs Hulk comic right now, and thought the Hulk punching Superman was humorous.

really? who would be excited about him as the bad guy in this crossover? other than me of course.

Abomination · Absorbing Man · Achilles · Agamemnon · Ajax · Amphibion · Bi-Beast · Brian Banner · Devil Hulk · Enclave · Flux · Galaxy Master · Gamma Corps · Gargoyle · Glenn Talbot · Glob · Glorian · Gremlin · Halflife · Hulkbusters · Hulk Robot · Intelligencia · John Ryker · Leader · Madman · Maestro · Mercy · Metal Master · Missing Link · Psyklop · Ravage · The Red King · Ringmaster · Speedfreek · Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross/Red Hulk · Tyrannus · U-Foes (Ironclad · Vapor · Vector · X-Ray) · Wendigo · Xemnu · Zzzax

that is an exciting list of bad guys.

yes it is.

Synopsis for "Batman vs the Incredible Hulk
"Bruce Banner is working at a division of WayneTech,
assisting in the development of a gamma-gun,
designed to cure diseases. Banner hopes
it may provide a cure for him -
from periodically turning into the Hulk.

The Joker appears and Batman soon follows.
After a fight, the Joker escapes with the gun,
and the Hulk reverts to Banner. Wayne
offers him a proper job, supervising
the gun's replacement.

The Joker uses the gun on the Shaper-of-Worlds.
The Shaper is losing his ability to absorb
the dreams of others, denying himself
an outlet for his powers, and potentially
driving him insane.

As Banner works on a Wayne research
ship in international waters, an army
team appears demanding he accompany them.
It turns out they aren't the army,
and Banner is not pleased, transforming
into the Hulk.
As the fake General wishes there was a
bigger monster to defeat the Hulk, a monster
indeed appears - courtesy of the Shaper.

Wow, what an odd story. I have the Hulk vs. Superman comic, which has much more straightforward (believable) story. Geez, that book came out 15 years ago!

I can't imagine during the plotting session how the Shaper of Worlds came up. or even why Batman / Hulk came up. Batman / Spiderman seems more natural. with Joker / Green Goblin...

Neither did I.

As a name, for sure. As a character, he's a new-and-improved Abomination, part of several new-and-improved Hulk-type characters, which makes me feel like Marvel has run out of ideas for the Hulk/Bruce Banner character.

Yes, he did. More than once, IIRC.

so the Hulk writers are recycling characters - destroying continuity and generally coming up with some horrid story ideas.

all so they could expand the number of Hulks in the world.

i expect Wolver-Hulk any day now.

at time Hulk was a nice solid read. with some moments that i really enjoyed. (3D Man, the Soviet Super Soldiers, Moonstone)
