Thanks Cag. I need the ascenders.I'm perfectly happy with my belay device though.
The Black Diamond ATC-Guide. In fact, I have two of them. (Can't recommend them highly enough.) Don't really hold with auto-camming/locking devices like the Grigri or the one pictured in your post...makes for lazy belayers.

Ouch. I liked the grigri...but I was taught early on to be attentive and the ex was very good about yelling out shit like, "climb on" after puzzling out her route. But we also climbed with some people that let me fall further than I was comfortable with, so I guess I see your point.Avatar wrote:

And I'm so literal minded, I didn't even notice it.
I learned on a grigri to start, and it's a great device. But not only does it make people lazy, but misuse can cause unnoticed catastrophic failure (in extremely rare cases).
Edelrid's new one is quite nice...pulling the lower-lever too far down locks it the same as letting go does...overcomes the problem caused by users inclination to panic and clamp the lever down if something goes wrong. But gimme a friction device and a good belayer any day.
(We should probably get back on topic though. )
