Am I missing out on some gratuitously pornographic sub-forums buried deep in the bowels of the Watch, to which, subject to the appropriate checks and grilling through and eye-slit in the strongly barred door, I should slip in, furtive and bemacked in the nether-hours of the dying night?

[As on the occasion that I discovered via a report in our local paper that a chinese herbal remedy shop in our town had been opperating as an udercover house of ill repute for the last twelve years un beknowns to me. "Twelve years and I never knew," I said, turning to my co-worker in the shop, "I must be mixing with the wrong people!"]

 I wish the best of luck to anyone trying to acess anything from my wretched laptop. Most of the time it's all I can do to get the thing to even turn on let alone actually find anything on it!

Best to also credit the libidinous musings / artwork of Frosty, Effy, Ananda, et al. Their contributions certainly don't break our family-friendly paradigm, but they can be evocative for those who are receptive to such.

The game "Redefinition" has been started in Mallory's, and it is funny.

Here's the idea / OP:
Sorus wrote:What words should really mean. I considered making it ABC, but figured that was too cruel.

Examples:

ussusimiel wrote:Bucolic

(While this word means 'pastoral' and pleasant country living, it has always sounded to me like a cross 'puke' and 'colic', which while relevant to each other are utterly at odds with 'bucolic'. That's dem Greeks for ya!)
Phylactery

Possibly confused with prophylactic. Not a mistake you want to have to explain to your doctor.

There's another round of the Bad-Writing Game.
shadowbinding shoe wrote:Let us enter this good Ten-Fingered-Tommy's
shoes and write a shallow, optimistic piece of crap. What must the story contain to be worthy of our hero's 10 hale and whole fingerst?

1) A perception of heights and abyses that gives each word you write the shape of dried, black blood. Your aim is to fill your reader with anguish.

2) Create landscapes of an earth brimming with a sheer force of its own brilliance. Preferably rendered visible by a white bolt striking into the heavesns from a lightning rod
Landscapes must include:
a. hills
b. crags
c. trees bent by the passionate wind
d. night-ridden people

3) Make your reader surmise from your writing that you felt as drained and satisfied as all of life's love uttered in one act.
So now all the Watch can know what sort of trouble we're getting ourselves into down there with our bad writing!

Edit: Font size change. From 18 to 14. Fixed typo in my quote, it seems.

This is definitely happenin' news on the Watch, even if we are pretty much all late to the party by a week or so:

TLD Part II Chapter 12: You Are Mine, dissection begun by Effaeldm
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor

"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."
-Elisabeth Elliot, Preface, "A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael"
