Fabulous photos, Sea!

Never had a good look at a wombat before. It's impressively cute! Can I adopt one? :P

Also had never really appreciated the difference between a kangaroo and a wallaby, so it's nice to be able to compare them side by side.

(I do know the difference between an emu and an ostrich, at least...) :biggrin:

And thanks MM. :) Although you wouldn't want to adopt a wombat. They can get quite stroppy and have a mean set of teeth. This one was quite friendly (for a wombat).


I'm currently sorting through about 800 shots (oh the joys of a digital camera) so I'll just post the good ones once I decide which ones are good! :P These three are taken at Squeaky Beach (called such because the sand squeaks when you walk on it). The beach has the whitest sand I've ever seen.
1) looking back up towards the entrance onto the beach
2) white dunes that flank the surf beach
3) looking down Squeaky Beach towards Pillar's Point

These were taken using the widescreen function on my camera... ImageShack size reduction makes the images look a little sharper than the pictures actually are.

Pictures of Tidal River: famous for it's tea coloured water (caused by all the tea trees in the area). In summer it's a popular swimming place as it's quite shallow and the water's very warm so it's a great for kids. The river runs into Norman Bay.

That wombat scared the crap out of me, Sea. And actually mu first thought was "what the hell is THAT thing!? And WHY is it attacking SoS!?"

Well, Balon: SoS wasn't phased at all by the wombat. He said "can I pat it"...I said "no" so he did.

I'm with you, Lucimay. That last photo is probably my favorite (except for one or two of the Whiskey Bay sunset ones--I'll post them tonight). There's definitely something magical about it. :)

And Av is right: a wombat is a "burrowing herbivorous Australian marsupial". They can grow up to a meter long, and are these solid things that, well, could knock you off your feet if they really wanted to (they can run really fast if they have to). They eat roots and grass, have a pair of massive incisors like a rodent. They're nocturnal usually although the ones down at the Prom are kinda cool because they're pretty fearless...we saw heaps of them strolling around at the beach, and one hung out near our cabin at night. When I was a kid we had one that used to get under the house and chew through the phone line on a regular basis! And they have a cool backwards facing pouch (so that when they're digging holes they don't get dirt in their pouches). We saw one wombat with a bub in its pouch--you could just see the bub's foot sticking out every now and again. Cute!!!

That's a cute picture. It looks a little like a muskrat, but It must be pretty placid though.

My first destination out into the world is Australia. Maybe I'll visit the wombats! :D
