Tomorrow, kids, we'll do it blindfolded! Spinning around as you do it is optional.

Hey, I got the 1st four letters right. Just less than a quarter of the whole word. And since I _only_ used 4 letters, doesn't that technically mean I got the whole thing right?matrixman wrote: It's not that difficult, my fellow conscripts. Just practice, practice. (For some reason, I thought it was something German. )

Yup, that was me. I was hazarding a guess based on many, many years of being subjected to hearing anime characters shouting in Japanese in my basement.

Pretty sure from what Turiya says on her deviant art page that you're correct on the source of her new user name, ali...aliantha wrote:Yup, that was me. I was hazarding a guess based on many, many years of being subjected to hearing anime characters shouting in Japanese in my basement.

Long-time fan
Hi, guys.
I'm brand new here. I am 40-years old and SRD's Thomas Convenant books have some special meaning for me. I remember I picked up the first trilogy at a local bookstore in Williamson, West Virginia when I was, oh, I'm guessing around 15 or so. I guess that would have been around 1984. I'd finished Fred Saberhagen's Swords books not long before this, so it was quite a change for me. I remember thinking SRD must have swallowed a thesaurus. My mom picked up one of the books and read out loud "the unbeliever" and looked strangely at me. I had to explain the concept. I am sure her thought was that it was a sacrilegious book! That doesn't fly well in rural West Virginia!
So I read the first six books and fell in love with it. I went to college and sometime around 1989, I read them again, along with the original Dragonlance novels. Mom died in 1990. Years late, in the '90s, I read them again at least once or twice, about the time I read Watchmen and fell in love with Return of the Dark Knight.
So I picked them up about 3 years ago and reread the first 6 books, along with my newly acquired Fatal Revenant. It's still a fantastic read (although few scenes compare to Mhoram's stand outside the Keep and some of that original story, like Nom. I also have the 2nd book in this last trilogy (wait, it's not a trilogy... a quadrilogy?), but haven't yet picked it up to read. I sometimes have long gaps between books because I am always reading something else.
Although I Am Legend was nothing more than an action movie, and completely bastardized from the original story, I would still take the chance with a TC movie, if given the choice. I had high hopes when I read on here a few years ago there could be a movie. What's the worst thing that could happen, really? The movie stinks and I forget it ever happened!
The Thomas Covenant books, especially the original trilogy, and I Am Legend will always my most treasured books. I fell in love with them as a young boy, and they have been part of my life ever since.
I just hope I live long enough to read the entire story!
Anyway, sorry to be so long-winded and dramatic.
Good to meet you folks!

Hail and well met, bek!
Most of us here are life long fans of TC. Myself, I first read them when they came out in '77, I was 14 at the time. I have re-read them way too many times to count, and pretty much have them burned into my memory. So, you are among friends here.

And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~
...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

I remember a similar situation in which my mother picked up my copy of LFB and asked "What are you doing reading a book about an unbeliever?"My mom picked up one of the books and read out loud "the unbeliever" and looked strangely at me. I had to explain the concept. I am sure her thought was that it was a sacrilegious book!
