I'm confused.
So are the mortgage people, apparently.

Yes...I will make sure she reads Seized first!

Dam-sel has agreed to let her read it on her Kindle Fire, since Menolly does not care for reading literature on the PC application for Kindle.

It's not only the Kindle for PC software I do not enjoy reading. Forums and websites I have no problems with, but reading texts on a monitor in any format has always given me a headache. I am hoping since the Kindle is made specifically for reading, that it will not bother me as much...

Heh. I will admit that I will probably read that physical copy of Fissured rather than the e-version I bought for Dam-sel. Kindle Fire is a very nice device, but I am old-school enough (maybe only need the first part of that hyphenated term) to still prefer a real printed book. :read:

Well! I'm glad it made it so speedily. :)

Altho I have it on good authority (one of the book bloggers who was on the Internet radio talk show with me last night) that you can read the second book without needing to have read the first one. So, hey, whatever works best for you. ;)

O'rly?

Having not read the second one yet, I am surprised. Is this just the book blogger's opinion, or do you as the author feel that your intent would not be compromised by reading the books out of sequence?

What the nice lady said was that she herself read them out of order, and she complimented me specifically on writing enough of an introduction (that's what she called it; what she meant was sort of a "what has gone before", but within the text of the novel) in book 2 that she didn't feel lost.

As the author, I conceived of an overall story arc for the series. So the books build on one another. But I'm also trying to write them so that if someone picks up book 3, say, without realizing there was a book 1 and 2 (altho the person would have to be pretty dense, since they all say "book X" on the cover in 18-pt. Gabriola ;)), they can enjoy the story without being lost for the first third of the book. Because I'm pretty sure, tho I haven't tried to scientifically prove it, that urban fantasy readers don't have the same sort of patience as, say, Malazan fans. ;)

SD, if you wouldn't mind, after you and Dam-sel have read book 2, please let me know if you think I put in *too much* info about book 1, to the point that you were bored and wanted to skip ahead. It's a fine line, I think, and I think I did it okay. But I'd appreciate confirmation. :)

had better days...

took the grandkids ice skating at the galleria. everything was going great. and on the last skate around julie fell and hit her head. she seems ok, but her head hurts.

when we got home found out her mom fell and is in the hospital. julie will be visiting her tomorrow.

i return to work tomorrow. at the trusty camp i asked not to be working at. my belly seems better. infection from the wound site is gone. leg has felt better - mainly because it has been raining.

otherwise all is well.

I hope both Julie and her mom get better soon. Did you skate, Sarge? How did your ankle do?

Sooo the big Danube River cruise is coming up in, like, a week and a couple of days 8O and it dawned on me, oh, a week ago that if I hustled, I could maybe get the first draft of book 3 done and out of the way before I got on the plane. That would give me a natural break before diving into the editing phase. The plan required essentially being chained to my computer at home for two weeks, including this weekend. Silly me. Yesterday, Batty pestered me to take her to the store (which we needed to do, in any case) and then Magickmaker came over last night for knitting and watching "Inception", which has been sitting here for nearly a month. But now I can send it back to Netflix (and get another movie to watch, thereby blowing another writing evening ). And one day next weekend is already booked with driving down to Roanoke to fetch the last of Batty's stuff. At this rate, I will need to write about 4000 words a day to finish the first draft before we're wheels-up. 8O That's a lot. Hoping to knock off a big chunk today and tomorrow, but still....

Hmm. My copy of Fissured is apparently still in Illinois!

Finished my newsletter at last, sent off the ones by email, sending the copy to the printer tomorrow for the people who want hard copies. Now I can get on with other things. :D

Sarge, sorry to hear about the accidents on the ice. Dangerous stuff, only went once and spent most of the time sitting down! :(

ali - tried skating as a kid. roller and ice. failed. i have no sense of balance. i actually went to a therapist in grade school for it. worked on my stutter as well. lost the stutter and barely regained my balance.

have been unsteady ever since.

32,849. 8O I think I had about 18,000 words at the start of the weekend. On one hand, I'm pretty darn tired of sitting at the computer all day. OTOH, I'm at the point in the story now where I'm gonna be *real* unhappy about having to spend time at my RL job tomorrow.

I truly do not understand people whose first instinct on realising they don't know something is not to google it.

Well, to be fair, for those of us of a certain age, there was no such thing as Google. Your options were to either ask around, or go to the library. Or just stare off into space and go, "Hmm." ;) But for the post-Google generation....

Oh, I use google all the time. You're as young as you feel.

Hope all went well Sarge.

Well, the spring rains have set in with a vengeance... unseasonally early too.
