Oh the stories I could tell you of the ancient days SoD! There was a time when she wasn't Greeter-in-Chief, things were raw back then, but suddenly-all our worlds changed. :P :P :P

Do tell.

I lurked for a couple years before registering and noticed the pattern in greeting even at the start of that period. Of course, that still leaves plenty of time prior to when I started reading. Based on profile registration dates, Menolly was here for a couple years before I started reading and you predate her by over three.

And Menolly is a relative n00b among us old-timers. :)

There's a small group of us who pre-date this version of the board and remember the great migration from EZBoard.

I am pretty sure it was Sky. I remember it being used before the Duchess was active on the board.

I think it was Sky, too.

SD, we need to wait for Halloween before we start rolling out the EZ Board stories. That place was truly frightening...

Ali, all I was doing was taking up danlo on his implied offer to share some ancient history and enlighten what he seemed to consider my naivety. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. I am waiting, but would prefer not to wait until Halloween.

From what I've gathered from the posts above (including the prior page), it appears that the phrase "Be Welcome and True" was adopted from SRD (as is appropriate for this board) and used by many before the current era when many greet newcomers, but few as consistently (both in greeting each of them and in how she phrases her greeting of them) as Menolly does.

If danlo is going to offer to "dish the dirt" on how it used to be, I am sitting comfortably and ready to listen.

Tell him about the pop-up ads that followed yer cursor around, danlo. Go ahead, tell him. I'll just sit here and whimper quietly in the corner, like I always do when I think of those damned things....

How do such tales of horror shed light on danlo's original point about things being "raw" prior to when Menolly was the self-appointed Greeter and Information Booth? Of how the world suddenly changed?

Last night's repartee was based on her perceived role as Greeter of All New Watchers, She had no role in the banishment of pop-ups (other than the toaster variety), I trust. What point was he trying to make in relation to her?

Digressions need to have a point around here now? When the hell did *that* change? Nobody ever tells me anything...

Touché, Ali!

Just seeing if I could goad danlo into telling the story he dangled out there as bait. Pretty clearly is not going to happen, so I will take my THOOOTP party elsewhere...for a little while, anyway.

HOOray !!

Post by GiantReaver »

Okay I'm stoked =)

Well I live in the SF Bay Area and I'm a huge fan of Donaldson's work.

Above all I love Thomas Covenant...what an effing amazing story. I found the first book Lord Foul's Bane at Waldenbooks in the San Antonio Shopping Plaza in Mountain View CA back in...what was it 1983, I might have been maybe 12 years old, but by then I had become an avid reader of serious SciFi and Fantasy books...since then Ive read everything mainstream that Donaldson has written, I've reread the chronicles at least a handful of times...

At present I am feasting on Fatal Revenant..very much involved.

I have to say at first I was put off by Runes of the Earth...not sure why. I think it mostly just had to do with where I was at at that time of my life roughly two years ago. I had turned my ex onto The Thomas Covenant books and she loved them. However when she brought me home the first book of the last trilogy I only read half the book and stopped...hadnt picked it up to until recently and reread it completely...and LOVED it.

Okay so now Im here...wondering what Kevin's Watch is all about and it's really late right now..bout 3am. Can't sleep so I going to go read Fatal Revenant, Im about half way into the book and enjoying it thoroughly.

Thanks all see you in the day time..

Be Welcome to the Watch, Bill.
Be Well Come and True.

We have a terrific contingent of Watchers located in the San Francisco area. I am sure they will make themselves known to you.

Feel free to jump in to the Watch anywhere, there is a lot more than only SRD-related discussions going on here. Since you haven't finished Fatal Revenant yet be wary of FR-related spoilers though which may be posted throughout the Watch. The admins and moderators try to put spoiler tags up to prevent the unwary from coming across them unexpectedly, but a few do get through.

Jump in anywhere. :)

Welcome, GiantReaver. Pleased share with us your complex feelings about Runes and the final chronicles. But please ... don't reave our Giants, we love them, and it takes so long to grow new ones.

New to Kevin's Watch

Post by Shelt »

Hi everybody. I've been reading this forum for a while off an on, and even joind earlier last year but never posted anything until today. Just wanted to say hello and look forward to the discussions of this great story.

I started reading these books as a teen, and was hooked by the great story teling. I even got my Mom into it. (funny, I tried to get her to start reading the last Chronicles, but she's still PO'd that SRD killed Covenant at the end of WGW).

Anyway like you all, I'm eagerly awaiting October 2010!
