We spent all day yesterday traveling. Delayed leaving Denver, delayed again leaving Dallas. Finally got home at about 9:30 last night. :( But the important thing is that we *are* home. So it's all good.

Magickmaker's dad and new wife came over this afternoon. Tomorrow is the Yule get-together for my book club; then Magickmaker and I are going to see "Young Frankenstein, the Musical" at the Kennedy Center tomorrow night. I'll let y'all know how it is...

And I'm typing to you from a new-to-me laptop. :) Magickmaker bought herself a MacBook Pro this fall (the better to WoW with ) but had kept her old Dell because her Dell printer wasn't Mac compatible. So among her Yule presents from me was a new printer, so that she could bequeath to me her Dell laptop and printer. 8) I'm excited that I'll be able to play Bejeweled on this baby without the game freezing on me (whoo hoo!). The other problem with her Dell is that the battery's dead, but as I plan to use it solely as a desktop machine, that's not a problem for me. Eventually I'll retire my Acer laptop completely and get a netbook for traveling. The Acer runs *very* hot, and so requires lugging along a cooling mat; also, the left-click button on the touchpad is intermittent so I have to use a mouse, and the sound isn't very loud so I kind of need speakers -- none of which is an issue with the Dell. (Yet.)

I've got four months to ab crunch and get myself into fighting form to go to wondercon as Ms. Marvel. I'm also going to have to go blonde. This should be interesting.

I'm down in Melbourne visiting Seasis...and trying to pretend that
a) I didn't drink all that whiskey last night and
b) that I haven't got sore limbs due to playing Wii Tennis like a nut-banger after I'd drunk all that whiskey.
c) that Seasis didn't then beat me on an IQ test thingo on Wii

...now if only I can convince Mr Seareach to give me his credit card so I can go to the shops with Seasis

Don't worry about the IQ test, Sea. Those things are grossly overrated and misleading. My contempt for IQ tests is barely less than my contempt for the daily astrology column.

Back to work today. Urk. At least it's quiet.

This morning on the Metro, I was on a nearly-empty car, enjoying the peace and quiet, when a herd of tourists boarded. There must have been 20 of 'em, all apparently from the same family. Kids were hanging from the poles. Grandmas were chatting across the aisles to moms. Grandpas were smiling genially at one and all.

I got off at the next stop and took a different train. Just couldn't take all that bonhomie on the first day back from vacation....

Erm, oh, and "Young Frankenstein, the Musical" was okay. Not slam-bang funny, but entertaining enough. Mel Brooks kept all the best lines from the movie, so a lot of the charm was in knowing what was coming next. It was interesting to see it with Magickmaker -- she's done enough shows as a techie to critique this one, and let's just say she wasn't overly impressed with the Kennedy Center's tech crew. And if the tech crew actually travels with the company, then she *really* wasn't impressed....

Excited!

And a little nervous.

After a too long bout of unemployment, I have a job interview tomorrow afternoon! I think I have a decent chance at getting an offer. They have a consultant (they want him to go direct, but he doesn't want to) leaving after next week and want someone soon so some knowledge transfer can take place. I've already had a phone screen, so all I need to do is convince them I'm the one tomorrow!

Good thoughts, vibes, prayers, etc. are all welcome. 8)

I'm really relieved. I went into the dentist yesterday. I haven't been able to afford Dental Insurance, and so haven't gone to the dentist, since I left my parents home 8 years ago (minus an emergency root canal). So now, the insurance comes with my job and I went to go see what the damage was. 4 cavities and I need a crown for the root canal I had. It'll cost me, total, $350. My insurance covers the rest.

Whew.

I had one dentist quote me $1200 for the crown alone. The grip of fear is released. :-P

My shoulder is acting up today. I am not sure this surgery was a good idea, feels worse than when I tore the rotator cuff. I am trying not to take painkillers, because as a few here can attest  I act very silly/dumb/out there when I am a percocet goddess.

So I am drug free, drink free and painfull

This too shall pass, lorin.
Healing and recovery take time and rest.
Be sure to give your shoulder the time to do so.
We are here to listen in the meantime.

How'd it go?

I know I haven't been on here much the last few months, but work's been stressful, and with school and everything...

Anyway, good news on the home front. I had my first first date in 9 years a week ago... thought I was going to have a heart attack, my pulse was racing the whole time! I thought it went pretty good... it was a lunch date, and we pretty much sat in the restaurant and talked for 3 hours straight. That's a good sign to me :)

Looks like we may have solved the moped issues in totality. We celebrated by going out for a drink at a biker bar. We were also celebrating Bloodguard Bob's birthday. All in all a good day.

Recovering after a bout of "man flu". Floored me for two days, but feeling a little better today.
Back to work at 4pm on New Years day, but off on the 2nd, so not too bad.
