Suggestions for a good series

OK Ive been reading all of the Raymond Feist Midkemia books for the last few months and have finished all he has to offer. Some good reading but the first few books (Magicians Apprentice, etc etc) were definetly the best of them.

So gimme some suggestions for a series.. one that is finished and I dont have to wait on pins and needles waiting on an author to get the next book out (i.e. SRD's Last chronicles )

Philip Jose Farmer's Riverworld series is excellent.

Everything by Julian May, but especially Saga of the Exiles.

Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series (not fantasy I know, but it'll keep you going for a year or so!)

Here's a little known series that I recommend greatly.

The Fall of the First World, by Charles C Smith.

Probably the only other series that has me as involved in its commentary on the principles of life as the Chronicles.

The Earthsea series, by Ursula K. Le Guin
The Neverness series, by David Zindell

Le Guin's has the advantage of being in print. But amazon.com usually has the Neverness books used. As well as the Julian May that Stonemaybe mentioned.

Agree that the first three are the best of the bunch by a long shot.

I must ask if you read the Empire series he co-wrote with Janny Wurts? Starts with Daughter of the Empire. You may well have, but I thought you might have mentioned them if you did.

If not, I heartily recommend them. They run parrallel to the RiftWar series, on the other side of the rift. And they're as good, if not better.

I read Riverworld years ago and enjoyed it immensly. I might re-read it cause I dont remember many details its been so long ago.

Earthsea I also read long ago and I have recommended it to many others.

I have not read the Empire series so since Im in Midkemia mode I will probably read those next.. while the stories are still fresh in my head.

Then I will get some orders off for a few books and 'dip my toe in the water' so to speak and see if any of them will entrance me enough to buy the rest of the series.

Also, try King's Dark Tower Series. You won't be disappointed.

Depending on how long ago you read it, you might not be aware of the entire series:
A Wizard of Earthsea
The Tombs of Atuan
The Farthest Shore
Tehanu
Dragonfly (A novella that can be found in a collection called Tales from Earthsea. Tales has some other stories set in the archipelago that are not part of the story arc of the six listed above. However, at least a couple of them are FANTASTIC, and all are at least very good.)

I'm surprised Lucimay hasn't yet put in a plug for the Malazan Book of the Fallen yet. Seriously, though, another good read. (Book 7 comes out in the UK/Canada in May -- I need to start re-reading the first six....)
