Soul Mates

Post by balon! »

Do you think the concept exists? I'm don't think so myself. I think that there can be a degree of closeness and connection between two people that they really ARE connected, but the concept of a Soul Mate implies that fate or God or luck has already chosen someone without your consent, and I believe that only I am in charge of my life.

So I don't think the concept of a Soul Mate exists, as I don't think that there are any mystical forces that control your destiny.

Not necessarily elimination of free will.

But consider: do I believe we have been here before? YES. Do I believe we have met others in other lives? YES Might that 'connection' that 'intimacy' that has developed and deepened over multiple lives 'connect' you on a 'higher' and 'higher' level? YES.

At least that is what I believe.

No preordination needed. No absence of free will. 'Fate' providing opportunities - perhaps! :D But our 'connection' develops as our souls travel existance together. Somelives we just take longer to find each other than other lives do!

I do accept the possibility of that deeper connection of past lives, but is that included under the term soul mate? Can a soul mate be changed as your connection weakens and, perhaps, breaks? Or is a soul mate permanent, no matter what?

I think that connections like that are fluid, and in no way permanent.

I believe I am with my soul mate.

Yet, as in all relationships, the closeness can wax and wane with the stressors of everyday life. The physical aspect between the two can evolve into something totally unexpected. But once found, the connection is always there, whether with awareness or no.

I also believe the connection varies from life to life (I too believe in multiple lives), and that a soul mate can be not only a lover in one life, but possibly an intimate friend of the same sex, or even a family member in another. The age difference in this existance that we perceive could be extreme, especially if one soul departs early in the lifetime of the other, and then is reborn. So, while I don't think the connection weakens or breaks, per se, I think it can change and mean different things at different times.

Otherwise, my thoughts echo AK's very closely.

*shrug* Of course its possible to find a person whose "soul" matches or fits your own. Does that mean there are no other people like that? No. Are you necessarily likely to find more than one? Not likely but still possible.

So it all depends on what you mean. If you mean a person who would inevitably end up as your partner, then no.

I think it's a rubbish concept. What happens if someone is born with Down Syndrome? The other soul has to make do with second best? Did Stalin's executioners have soul mates? What about kids who die at birth, or those who are born deformed and will never have a lover? What about the billions in history who never made it to adulthood? How can there be soulmates when there are more women then men?

Rubbish.

IMO, soul mates need not be lovers, or members of the opposite sex, Lore. And I do believe one can initially find a soul mate within a caregiver/client relationship. Yes, I understand training is supposed to supercede that potentiality, but I still think it happens.

Agree. No reason why Stalin's executioners couldn't have "soul mates" though...

[Edit to add: Anyway, the universe doesn't give a damn whether you meet a soul mate or not.]

I think Avatar might be my soul mate, if I believed they existed...

Too bad Av's a guy.

I'd say yes. I also believe that people have multiple "soul mates", however... the people that float in and out of your life just when you need them or think of them out of the blue...and they appear.

Yes there is the romantic sort...but really think of what that is. The deepest love is that born of friendship and trust. Your "soulmate" need not be a lover, but a friend too.

Isn't it possible that a gathering/group of souls exist to help each other in this life and beyond as we learn lessons and grow? I think so.

I never thought about souls mates this way, but now that I do, Jared and I are about as close as I come to anyone. I'd go so far as to say we've got everything that a married couple does except that we're not married, and I don't want to have sex with him.

I can definitely agree with the concept that a soul-mate doesn't nessecarilly match with a marriage partner or whatever.

I believe in soul mates, but I don't think you find them in soul-mate-condition... you have to participate in their creation. Sure as heck you won't get one waiting for one to happen to you, anyway.

I think I have a soul mate, but I'm not sure that she would agree. And that's the rub.
It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

Yes. That's what I was trying to say. The deepest connection exists, but it's not preordained to happen. It's like everything else, there is potential but without effort it wont ever convert to kinetic energy. It'll stay as potential.

I've never had a f*cking valentines day.

Regardless, someone can be special - for their personality or looks - without having to be a soulmate.

Do I want to ask?

No...I didn't think so.

...not based on previous conversations...
