I'm glad I...

Post by CovenantJr »

This is a counter topic to the one about stuff you'd do differently if you had the chance. That topic led to me thinking about things I'm glad I didn't do differently.

I'm glad I went to university in Bangor last September. Even though the main reason I went there is now gone (my then-girlfriend), if I'd gone to a different university I would almost certainly have never got to know Georgina, who is now one of my closest friends, and one of the most unique people I know.

Who's next?

I'm glad I decided to strike up a conversation with the person who sat near me on the bus to school when I was in eighth grade, because she became the best friend I've ever had, and still is.

...finally said yes to Hyperception's proposal, after telling him no three previous times. Even if he did propose the first time only two months after we initially met, and we were married within five months of meeting...

Must be why we just celebrated our 20th.

I'm glad I got stuck in a college dormitory room with Elizabeth, instead of the private room I wanted. Because of that, I was befriended by Jules (my best friend ever since). That alone really influenced my life's path, as a lot of things directly or indirectly hinged on our friendship. Including my crazy ex, who I was trying to hook Jules up with. I ended up with him, and though he put me through hell, I am the person I am today because I came through that. And because of me, she married her husband (I was a much better matchmaker the second time around!).

I'm glad I gave up on football. Making that decision forced me to stop caring about any thoughts and opinions that I do not decide to care about.

I've pondered a reply to this thread for some time, and I've come to this conclusion:

I'm just glad.

I'm glad I murdered that hobo 5 years ago. I know he would have blown up the world had he lived.

Don't tell anyone.

But seriously folks, I'm glad I decided to switch music channels in my teens, and started listening to the radio station I later worked at. Yeah, it was college music in the 80's, but it struck a major chord with me, and pretty much shifted my life from a kinda depressed yout' with dorky friends to finally breaking free of that bond and letting my freak flag fly. I owe great thanks to my eldest sister for helping into that, my elder sister for introducing me to Kate Bush which is the reason I tuned into the station in the first place, as I had heard they played her music occasionally. I wish I was joking, but punk rock and English homosexuals singing about death is what brought me out of my funk and was the point where my life shifted gears and my personality finally blossomed as I knew which direction to grow. It was just the catalyst, but I still blame it.
