Date set :-)

Post by Fire Daughter »

Well, Myles and I were going to wait until after we graduated from college, but then we began talking between ourselves and the family and came to realize that waiting wasn't what we wanted. Why wait? Life is too short.

So, we set a wedding date. :) We picked Christmas Eve 2010, because it is the holiest night of the year and it is also my parents' anniversary. We will be married here on the Mountain in the little chapel we have on our property. Neither one of us can think of a better place or better date to declare our love for each other and begin this new chapter of our lives together. :)

My Mom wrote this to my Dad on their wedding day...

Of love we hold for us
Souls bound eternally
Lest it all pass from the world
We shall rise and dance entwined in Heaven
Our love, ours blessed, ours avowed before the Host
And God gifted me with you
Granted, bestowed
Were I of blindness
Not beholding of the glorious
Struck dumb by such beauty
I would be unworthy of you
Ah, but my heart is full
My soul sings to yours
And now
we vow
our love for each other
Before the Host
Before those we hold most dear
We shine in the Light of Him
As I kiss you below His outstretched arms
I hear the voices of Angels singing
I feel the Breath of their sighing
And I bask in the glory of our love
On this day, I thee wed.--ST(Tracie) McKinney

I will miss her...but I know she will be here as she is now, watching from Heaven.
For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

Heh, yeah, we are sure. :)

Thank you, everyone. Myles is my soulmate. Just like my Dad's is Mom. I knew it the first time I saw him. So, it was going to happen sooner or later, and we decided the sooner the better. :-)

Congrats.

As someone who got married in his early 20's, though, I would like to offer some caution on the "soulmate" stuff. Tracie and your dad were incredibly lucky (and/or worked very hard) that their souls took the same (or at least compatible) twists and turns as they grew older. Many people expect the same and are surprised when it doesn't work out. I'm a very different person than I was 12 years ago, and so is my wife. Half the time I think it's a miracle we're still together, the other half I couldn't imagine not being so.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

And Brooke and Myles are going to take that advice just exactly the same way you would have then. The way all of us will and do take advice in general, and the kind regarding our being in love in particular.

Congrats Brooke!
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Congratulations Firedaughter!

My little bit of advice - you have to remember to love yourself if you expect someone else to stay in love with you.

We plan to love and grow together, whatever work needs to be done, we will do it. Right now, we are wrapped up in each other, I do not see that ever changing. He "completes me" as the line from Jerry McGuire says. I know who I am, my Mother instilled in me a strength and love that nothing could ever bring down. Myles understands me, and I him.

Besides, I heard this the other night as I was sitting out on the upper deck watching the sun sink behind the treeline...

"Brooke, why wait? Waiting only steals time away. And time, though it appears to be in abundance, is fleeting. The world will not wait. You should not delay your happiness, your love, your life."

I'll not stop listening to her now. :)

And Fisty...we will take LOTS of pics. And I'll post them. A white winter wedding on the Mountain. Should be glorious. :)
