book blogs

Post by aliantha »

I am sorta kinda trying to come up to speed on blogging culture. Are there any fantasy-related blogs you guys read regularly?

(Yes, I have an ulterior motive. I'm thinking about trying to organize myself a "blog tour" after the new book comes out in a couple of months.)

I started looking at book blogs and was overwhelmed with the number of them. There are some really good book blogs out there (but I was also frustrated because I don't have access to new books where I live!). I wonder if you can find stats on the most highly-trafficked ones and focus on some of those to begin with? Of course not all are interested in SPAs, but I did get some nice reviews by asking.

Yeah, it seems like everybody and his brother has a blog these days -- and a whole lot of them have nothing to do with fantasy. Apparently there are people out there who will organize a blog tour for you, for a fee. But I'm cheap. ;)

I have a sense that Watchers tend to prefer sharing advice here, amongst friends, and on message boards for their other favorite authors, but I don't know that for sure. I know Murrin has a blog (hey Murrin, want to host me? ). And pat5150 used to promote his blog here, altho he hasn't been around in awhile (and he's got enough heavy hitters that I doubt he'd be interested in working with an indie author).

I tend to read author blogs mostly, rather than news/review type places. There are a few very smart and entertaining writers I always keep up with, but they're not really what you're looking for in this case.

Do you get published in print and distributed through any major retailers? If so, there's one avenue that might be possible but a long shot.

You should still try with pat5150. If nothing else, he'll probably know where you could go. (It'd also probably be easier to contact him on the Malazan forums  :P )

It's not really a blog, but I feel like it might kind of fit what you're looking for...if you've read The Gap, there's a really interesting review (IMO) about it here: www.reviewsbygavrielle.com/gap.shtml

I actually disagree with a lot of what the author says, but I thought the review was really well written.

Sorry if it's not your cup of tea, or if you already know about it.

Murrin -- thanks, but I don't meet Scalzi's criteria. Oh well.

Orlion -- I might try him, yeah, if only to get some names. I'm a little nervous, tho, since I've passive-aggresively noted more than once that he only comes to the Watch to advertise his blog. :shifty:

Holsety -- I might e-mail her, but I wonder whether she's actively keeping up with her website. "Red Dwarf" was on awhile ago, wasn't it?

Hahaha.

*shrug* The Watch is the only place I go to read or talk about books. :D
