I've always wondered (and this topic perfectly illustrates why I have the highest topic count) what cellphones you guys carry, if any.

I myself have an iPhone 4S. I figure they're so prevalent that we're all carrying some kind of gadget around.

Anyway. What are you packing? Why do you like it and are you planning on upgrading.

Or do you not carry a mobile phone and have yet to enter the late 20th century?

I have a pay as you go Nokia mobile phone - it is a phone, it usually sits in my handbag not charged up. I don't know the number, and I only receive messages from my daughter, or my husband if I'm away, and adverts. The numbers are large enough for me to see. I know, I'm old fashioned.

I have an older LG flip top, no idea of the model name (if it has one) or number. It has a camera, which is an upgrade from my previous phone.

Right now I have no plans to upgrade, as it was a hand-me-down from SD when he added me to his family plan several years ago. I suspect I'll be upgraded the next time SD and Dam-sel upgrade, as Dam-et will receive one hand-me-down and I t'other.

I do have a new in-the-box HTC HD7 I won off of Ryan Seacrest's Facebook page a year or so ago. But it is T-Mobile locked, and while it could be cracked for Beorn to use on my previous AT&T number, according to SD, apparently there is no compatibility between T-Mobile and Verizon. So, in the box it sits, as Beorn does not need the distractions having a smart phone would bring; much less the cost of a data plan.

Samsung Galaxy. Not sure what actual model, as there are many. This one is more slender than most Galaxies/iPhones.

I used to be really down on cell phones; when I finally broke down and got one, it a cheap flip phone. I had it for years, until I wore it down to nothing.

My son has a Galaxy (Different model) so I said what the heck.

Now I wonder how the world ever got along without smart phones!!

I have some Motorola, can't tell a lot about it, I don't use it much. I prefer Skype to have talks, and usually have easy access to it, so the cell is mostly to lie there for any emergencies and for some rare situations.

The situation when I used it most recently - I had to go shopping, several relatives of mine also had shopping to do, but all were busy, so I received instructions on the cell. I have just to rejoice my relatives were merciful on me, because if you have no warm feelings towards characters like Angus from the Gap Cycle or Alex from the Clockwork Orange, I can recommend you to promise several people to do shopping for them through cell phone directions, that may be not the scale, but definitely some of the feeling of that powerlessness, lack of choice and forced resignation

I had an iPhone 4, but I found out that I can't use it in Europe while I'm there next month. My "friends" at Verizon would happily loan me an Android phone for the duration of the trip -- but it wouldn't be my phone. So I bit the bullet and upgraded to the iPhone 4S, and gave my old iPhone to Magickmaker.

I've had a few different phones over the past few years, starting with a Nokia pay-as-you-go for emergencies only, but I have to say that I like the iPhone the best. And drew, I'm with you -- how did we get along before smartphones?

To flesh out Menolly's post above, her phone is an LG VX5500, which I bought in December of 2008. As she said, I passed it to her in January of 2011 during Beorn's west-coast college tour when I added her to our family plan and upgraded Dam-sel and I to Samsung Zeal (really it is an Alias, but Samsung recalled the Alias, upgraded the dual-hinge and rebranded it as Zeal).

The appeal of the Zeal is that it has a very nice keypad that uses the same e-ink technology as the Kindle readers. When opened as a traditional flip-phone, the keys are marked as one would expect for a phone; when opened on the other axis, it is marked as a QWERTY keyboard and can be shifted into numeric or special character modes.

Having become a much more intensive user of text in the last three years, the dual-orientation and other text-friendly features have been quite handy. Since Menolly typically racks up about 2,000 texts a month while still using a standard flip phone and T9 texting methods, I am sure she is looking forward to getting the Zeal when Dam-sel and I upgrade again...which I think we are now eligible to do.

I had an Alias at one point, but it didn't have a virtual keyboard. I liked it a lot. But I still like my iPhone better. (rdhopeca, why the hate? )

Some kind of LG touch screen. No idea of model. Recently got it off a friend as I was booted off my old network cause they upgraded some technical hooha. I kinda miss my old brick. Had it since 2009, worked til the moment they turned it off.

I have a Samsung Gravity Smart. It kind of sucks, but I like having a keypad.

Nah, not really. Beside being a little long in the tooth, it's also a Windows 7 phone. Just figured if you weren't using it, you might want to catch up on your karma.

I find them to be poor as a *phone*. I have too many calls day to day to not have my phone be a good phone. Of course part of that is the fault of AT&T sucking for so long where I live that by the time iPhones were out on different providers I was already perfectly content with my Droid.

Plus the screens on the newer Galaxies are larger and better on the eyes that the current iPhones.

Makes sense. The larger Galaxy wouldn't fit in my pocket as comfortably. And I don't call people so much as I text with my kids. So the iPhone works pretty well for me.

Samsung has the Swype keypad.

I don't understand how it could possibly work, but it does, due to some sort of magic, but I love it for texting and emails.

I have a pretty simple phone, an LG Octane. I looked at the iPhone but decided I don't need one right now, cause I carry my iPad most places. I can make calls, text, email and search the internet on my phone (though I don't really use it for searching the internet at all). For more complicated stuff, I take out the iPad.

Eventually, I'll get an iPhone.

Some old Nokia. It makes and receives calls and txts, that's about it.

Suppose I should upgrade it someday, but it serves my purposes well enough.
