A poll from lorin: Which hand do you write with?
lorin says her computer won't let her do a poll. Macs are weird, I guess. Anyhow, here you go.
I'll start off : I'm right-handed.

I'm ambidextrous, but left is quicker and neater. Playing cricket (in the olden days when I was mobile), I'd bowl left-handed and bat right. Also used to change hands half way through a table tennis rally, which pissed my brother off no end.
Btw, apart from shopping lists, does anyone actually write anymore?

Re: A poll from lorin: Which hand do you write with?
Thanks for the help, Ali. Macs are weird, Mac users are weird. I cannot figure out what the problem is. But if this is the biggest problem a 6 year old laptop ever gives me I will die a happy woman. Polless but happy.aliantha wrote:lorin says her computer won't let her do a poll. Macs are weird, I guess. Anyhow, here you go.

Anyway. I am interested about left vs. right. I write with my left hand except one time when, as a child I was called to the board and mindlessly picked up the chalk (you remember chalk don't you?) with my right hand and started writing, so I am calling myself a leftie. I want to see how many people on this site are lefties and righties. I am told, I read, that left handed people have very different personalities than righties because the right side of their brains are dominant. I think this site has a very interesting crossection of personalities and it would make an interesting experiment. I hope the Tankers, gamers and writers also answer this poll. and the others I concoct (get ready Ali

I write with both...because my penmanship is entirely illegible (even to me), so I type everything except my signature and have done so for over 40 years.
Outside of realm of scribbling, I tend to be right-handed except when counting pills out (a weekly task) which I do left-handed. No idea why...
Of course, this topic just begs for the following:

I admit it, you are better than I am!
Then why are you smiling?
Because I know something you don't know!
And what is that?
I… am not left-handed!

I'm not in my Right mind, because I am Right handed.
According to the poll, so far, most of us are not in our Right Mind.

Right.
I learned to write with my left after breaking my right arm when I was young. I can still write legibly with my left, but usually use my right out of instinct.
I write a lot by hand. Especially when I'm stressed out. It's more satisfying than typing.

I print with both

Tried writing a few samples now. Looks rather ugly. With both.
Quite legible though, even if a bit... child-like, I guess. Likely due to the lack of exercise. As for in general, I can use both for many tasks and some I do more with one or the other, though I think the right one prevails, but that may be out of being used to that and because many things are made to be used with the right hand, usually I can switch. Also I'm apparently either better or at least above the common level with using my left hand for things like boxing and arm wrestling - not like I'm generally good at things like that, but it appears I do relatively well with the left hand.
lorin, have you tried different browsers? Mac itself is not too likely to be causing problems with forums, do you use its Safari browser or a cross-platform one, like Chrome or FF?

And I don't write shopping lists evenShaun das Schaf wrote:Btw, apart from shopping lists, does anyone actually write anymore?

The only thing I do right handed is use right handed scissors. I think that's because I never saw left handed scissors until well in to my teens, if even then...Savor Dam wrote:Outside of realm of scribbling, I tend to be right-handed except when counting pills out (a weekly task) which I do left-handed. I use Safari but my o.s. is antique. I just bought Snow Leopard ( i know, i know, that's ancient too.) Apple told me I need to catch up step by step. I need to back up my stuff before I upgrade. I have an ancient Macbook, one of the ones in an aluminum body.Effaeldm wrote:

Someday I am going to be buried with my Mac and my Prius, the only dependable things in my life.

i am right handed by force. back in 1st grade i had a teacher who decided i was right handed. i can write lefthanded, but it takes some concentration since i never actually use.
my handed script slants heavily if i don't pay attention.
add to that that i don't speak my original language anymore - french - you may get a glimpse into my poetry.
if i use a knife with my food i eat with my left, never switching over. used to drive julie crazy.
i still write almost of my poetry and Gomer Black stuff out in long-hand before editing on the computer. (bet you didn't know i edited any of my stuff.)
i do lots and lots and lots of paperwork for the prison and that is a pain in the ass.

My handwriting sucks. It was never picture-perfect (because you have to copy the letters in the handwriting workbook exactly -- we've discussed my inability to draw, haven't we?
) but it was adequate when I wrote by hand all the time. Now, I do nearly everything on the computer -- or on the Notes app on my phone -- and my penmanship is just miserable.
I've seen a couple of discussions elsewhere about whether it's even worth teaching kids cursive any more.
