RIP Gene Wilder

Post by dlbpharmd »

One of the funniest actors ever..... Of course, everyone remembers him for "Willie Wonka," but I love "Young Frankenstein," and "Blazing Saddles" makes me laugh to this day, even though I've seen it at least a dozen times.

Saw this a few minutes ago. Truly the world is a lesser place without his creativity. What a talented guy.

"Young Frankenstein" is my favorite movie ever. So sad. I hope he and Gilda Radner are having an awesome reunion right now...

Please do click through. Worth it to see it in motion.

For myself, I'll be watching The Producers tonight, but that's more because I don't have Young Frankenstein handy.

Sea posted a link on FB to a YouTube of "Pure Imagination." A fitting tribute.

Amen. When I saw this thread earlier today, my text to share the news with Dam-sel and Menolly was "Gene Wilder is reunited with Gilda..."

With no disrespect to Wonka as his best character portrayal or his great work in Mel Brooks films, my favorite role of his was in "Silver Streak" opposite Jill Clayburgh. Wow.

Three absolutely superb movies. A guy at work and I frequently just start doing Blazing Saddles for no reason.

Oh man. Gene was great.

Anybody else remember The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother?

I learned later in the day that Mr. Wilder has left behind a wife of 25 years, Karen Boyer. May she be comforted with all the mourners of Zion.

And may she understand we may not have known Mr. Wilder had remarried, when we posted statements regarding Gilda ad Gene being reunited. We had no intent of snubbing her and the past quarter century of her life.

Gene had four wives. If heaven weren't, well, heaven, then being reunited with all of them at once might be challenging, to say the least. :P

But, doesn't the Koran say that is one of the rewards of heaven? As long as it goes both ways, I'm good with that:biggrin:

Sad news indeed.

Still, he had a damn good run.

(Was actually shocked by recent pictures of him...hadn't realised how much he'd aged.)

Ah well, RIP.

Yeah, as much as a difference as this was from the death of Robin Williams, it hurts about as much. Gene has always been around from the days I was aware of movies and such. It seems like he went out well from reading this story.

I just hope nobody tries to create an animated corpse from his body.

"The decision to wait until this time to disclose his condition wasn't vanity, but more so that the countless young children that would smile or call out to him 'there's Willy Wonka,' would not have to be then exposed to an adult referencing illness or trouble and causing delight to travel to worry, disappointment or confusion. He simply couldn't bear the idea of one less smile in the world."
