How important is the "Fastest Users" stat to you?

It is the single most important thing in my life!

The Fastest Users

Post by aTOMiC »

For those of you who bother to look at the STATISTICS page you are probably familiar with the "Fastest Users" entry.

Its a statistic that is largely overlooked. Top Posters seems to be the most popular and Avatar has pretty much run away with the stat with Null and Cail a distant second and third place.

Other popular categories include Number of New Posts per Month and Number of New Users per Month.

Its the Fastest Users, however, that interests me the most. What constitutes a "Fast User"? Well it comes down to the number of messages per day by a single user coupled with the length of time they have been a member and said user is rewarded with high placement on the list provided they make lots of posts consistently. Avatar has this category locked up however this is the one stat that just about any of us can claim. I've seen new users ascend to the top of the list just by posting a lot when they first join. I myself have climbed to the top many times over the billion years I've been a member.

Since my return to daily posting I have monitored my progress in this category and have watched it steadily rise. It appears that by the end of the year I will have pulled back into 6th place (3.76 per day) after a lot of hard work and dedication. dAN occupies the number 5 position (4.57 per day) and is doing a great job lately of staying ahead of me. Good for him.

But the brass ring, position 1, is currently held by Avatar with 11.34 posts per day.

That's the goal, everyone.

I challenge all of you to become the fastest user. It will only cost you your soul because posting 20 times or more a day will probably require spending time in Mallory's which I must admit makes me feel tainted as a human being. However I've found that taking an extra shower every day will help cleanse yourself of the feeling that you've compromised your integrity for the sake of a near meaningless stat.

Now get out there and post. Post like its 1999! :rockband:

Nah! Fast use is not my thing. I prefer to position my posts where I've got something to add, by and large (though how much might be a matter of opinion ;) ). I love a good, well thought out post - particularly if it's one of mine!

I tried to care about this a few years back, but it's pretty hard to shift your average when you've got 10+ years of slow posting behind you.

If it was easy it wouldn't be any fun.

Congrats, Murrin!

I was at 1.46 when we first started the drive to keep things more active. I'm at 2.06 now. That's actually a larger increase than I had expected, and 2 posts per day doesn't sound like that many - but I know my average is usually higher than that these days and that average number changes pretty slowly. Probably just as well that I'm not usually competitive about those sorts of things.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

It doesn't have to stay that way. Your destiny is in your hands. Either embrace it or suffer horribly knowing that you could have been a contender. You could have been somebody. Its your choice.

First time I have ever looked at the stats with more than a passing glance: I find I am up there amongst the top in terms of new posts created, which (I don't know why) makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

That's really the most important stat if you ask me. (Also easy to quickly get yourself up there.) Without those topics, we've got nowhere to post. Good topics create more posts. (So do ones that get ignored, so don't let that stop you either.)

(Note that I appear nowhere on the one that's really important. Typical. ;) )

Now up to 3.80 per day. You have to admit that's pretty awesome. :-)
