VEGANS Assemble!

Post by darthbuzz »

There are a few posts in here about vegetarian recipes, or vagueatarian recipes, as I like to call them but not a mention of the word 'vegan' it seems until my arrival.

Are there any other vegan Thomas Covenant fans out of the 3,700 or so members and the millions of guests?

I went vegetarian in 1991 and then vegan in 2011. I am now 51 so have not eaten animals for 3/5th's of my life.

I went vegetarian because I love animals and didn't want to eat them any more. There is very little difference between a dog or a cat to a pig or a cow.
I went vegan because there is still a lot of animal cruelty in the dairy and egg industries. I am now a dedicated animal rights activist and even produced my own vegan outreach leaflet, of which there must be about 300,000 distributed around the UK.

Apparently, in 2016, a vegan society report sad there was 560,000 vegans in the UK. A much more recent poll by Comparethemarket.com in 2018 estimated that had gone up to 3.5 million.Even if it is half that it is amazing.

There is such a great increase in adverts on TV mentioning 'vegan' and so much more food available I am inclined to believe that is is near to the 3.5 million.

I also lived for a year on a vegan owned and run e-farmed animal sanctuary where I single-handedly looked after about 150 animals that had been saved from the plate.

Please don't comment if you have anything nasty to say, if you work in the meat industry for instance. I have the :highjacked: emoji ready because this is a nasty tactic that has been used many times. I am not anti anyone, just here to educate if you want information.

My leaflet...

It may be a bit out of date. I produced it in 2015 and it has been updated by me since and by others who I gave the original jgg's to.

I'm not vegan as I still like cheese. But I have been a gradual vegetarian for several years now. Not through choice really, more of a welcome side-affect to a change of lifestyle.
I think I ate my last fish a few months ago. A mackeral that caused me to feel a depression I hadn't felt in years. Which in retrospect isn't all that surprising, as fish are the most somber of creatures.

I have to say that the change in my health was far greater going from vegetarian to vegan as opposed to going from omni/carnivore to vegetarian.

Getting dairy and eggs out my system got rid of my migraine headaches, spots, body odor, smelly farts and poo, excess fat and many other things.
It is like your body becomes wonderfully balanced.

As for cheese, there are between 50 and 100 vegan cheeses in supermarkets in England. Such a variety... even vegan brie. The range of milks in probably 20 times the choice of animal milk.

Only 34% of the worlds population drink animal milk. Not intended for humans. People stopped drinking baby milk when they were not babies anymore, why drink a calves milk. People are lactose intolerant because it is bad for them. Why not suck on a dogs teat?

Consuming animal products and their secretions is the no.1 cause for heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity, cancer and diabetes.
A vegan, on average, lives 15 years longer.

It is a win, win situation. And your conscience is finally clear of pain and suffering your diet causes.

I've never liked the taste of milk, even as a kid. I can remember Thatcher doing us a favour back in the day by abolishing free milk in school.
That being said, it must be true then that red and white meat can cause headaches as I've been free of them for many years. Actually, I'd always thought it was through the practice of sahasrara meditation.

*The seventh chakra, called sahasrara, is located at the crown of the head. " Sahasrara" means thousand-petaled and represents a thousand-petaled lotus flower.

Interesting stuff. I would love to get into meditation, yoga or tai-chi or something. Just never got round to investigating them enough. Now old injuries are making me realise I am not as young as I used to be.

Although we cannot escape our physicalities youth is still just a state of mind.

For example, sometimes on the bus or in a queue, or at work when I get a few minutes downtime, I'll think on the thousand-petal lotus - usually guarded by a ring of cobras - and my thoughts will quickly turn into big fat golden raindrops - hundreds of them - each amber drop filled with the sweetest honey.
It only takes a few of them to touch the scalp washing away all stress and anxiety and free of mores.
nirvikalpa samadhi, or as I like to call it, nerves in the scalp that can drive you bonkers :P

Sadly, not to everyone's taste.

Well I havent gotten into meditation like you both have but I love yoga 🧘‍♂️... single most effective form of exercise and stretching.

I am not a vegan or vegetarian. My youngest son is a vegan and my eldest and his family vegetarians until their second child .. when my dil was advised to eat meat as her iron levels were critically low.

But whenever my kids are home we eat vegetarian or vegan depending whos home.

I was really worried about how we would deal with the vegan diet but was pleasantly surprised that there were heaps of great recipes out there.

So made vegan choc chip cookies, cakes, casseroles, curries, soups, breads etc and we enjoyed it. Im not really a fan of vegan vegetarian facon and other fake processed meat alternatives. I see them as equally unhealthy as their meat alternatives. I sometimes wonder why people even bother.

Is the objective to share recipes?

The ballsiest vegan recipe Ive used was for vegan pavlova made out of chick pea water. Absolutely phenomenal ... huge respect for whoever came up with that clever recipe.

I get all the exercise and stretching I need doing my job. It can be like visiting the gym some days, and they pay me.

Chakra meditation is best for me. It keeps my mind healthy and balanced. Like this afternoon I had quite an intense session which could mean that my stress levels were high.
Oddly enough I've been working on an electronic circuit input jack socket, preparing it for wiring and soldering. But when I went to my tool box for a square needle file I couldn't find it. It turns out that my file set has a duplicate. I've had the wallet of 10 files for several years and in all that time I never knew there were two round files the same. I did lose one a few months ago so it must have been the square file.
Anyway, if it weren't for the relaxation exercises I'm pretty sure odd occurances like this can easily cause mental dis-ease. Meditation and introspection helps me to stay tuned in to an inflexible universe.

I now adore hazelnut milk.

Thanks Skyweir, never meditated in my life but would love to get into something like that sometime. Been saying that for 40 years.

As for vegan food, it is unhealthy to eat loads of vegan crisps, sweets, cakes, biscuits, etc., as it is to eat loads of non-vegan ones but the non-vegan ones will be better for your body, You will still get fat. It is just easier to maintain a healthy size and low cholesterol, etc., on a plant based diet.

What is the point? 8O For me it was to stop having animals die for my sustenance. The healthier bit and greatly reducing your impact on planet Earth are just bonuses for me.

Yes, recipes, if you want. I am no cook so there won't be any from me. I just want to share why I am vegan and to help others that want to go vegan as well.

I just wanted an assembly of like minded people to chat to. It seems this assembly is just 1.

Don't think there are any other vegans here. My GF has been vegan for about 5 years or so, and was vegetarian for 20 years before that.

Since I'm about the opposite of a vegan, means we have 2 different meals every night. :D

I am surprised. A forum about a set of books that has a lot to do with Earthfriends, Earthblood, land protecting beings, Andelainian beauty.
The desecration of THIS Earth is happening now.
I think we are already WAY too late to save any of the beauty left on this tiny and insignificant blue dot. :? :(
It is one of the main causes of my current depression.

I am, it seems, on my own as a regular posting vegan in this forum.
But there are very few regular posters here these days it seems. Between 5 and 10 I think.

Eh, a bit more than that, but yes, we're a bit quiet these days. Of course, the forum has been going for 20 years, which is pretty impressive in internet terms.

I applaud your commitment.

My question. ... whats the point? Was about vegan faux meats stuffs 😉 I completely appreciate your point in being vegan however.

I will never be vegan because I have chickens and ducks and will eat their eggs. I have zero issue doing so. They are not fertilised so no life is being deprived.

I do worry when ideologies become quasi religious though. I am always happy to let you do you. I do however think all humans will by necessity become plant based consumers. For a number of reasons.

As to regular posters here .. the site peaks and wanes just like life, seasons etc.

I havent posted at the Watch for more than 3 months cuz life gets in the way sometimes... and the last 3 months involved a lot of that with bushfires, wildlife rescue and recovery work ... which is still ongoing .. travelling 100kms per week setting up supplementary feed stations, conducting Blackwalks, liaising with numerous government agencies to launch state wide wildlife search and rescue operations, caring for burned, dehydrated, starving or orphaned animals, euthanising critically injured animals ... and its ongoing.

So yeah life 🙄 it can totally fuck with making time to come post here 😉😂🤷‍♀️

But I love this planet and its resilience... seeing the new shoots coming back after the rains. Watching a burned devastated landscape become green and lush .. from grief and loss to hope and future, right before your eyes. ♥️

We have lost so much natural habitat that it will take a great deal of human intervention to assist wildlife that depended on that habitat.

I also have a day and night job caring for livestock, horses, and domestic pets of all kinds. And I volunteer with my local State Emergency Services unit to respond to all sorts of scenarios, flooding, tree falls, search & rescues etc.

In fact I was out tonight in the pouring rain sandbagging, clearing drains, digging trenches as there has been a lot of flooding of late.

So yeah ... but this place has stood the test of time ... and is quite an amazing community filled with amazing folk from all over the world. Some of us have even met in rl. The American Watchers occasionally meet up for Elohimfests. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
