Howzit Kusojiji. And welcome.
Apparently, the Chronicles movie rights have already been optioned. There is a thread about it somewhere, if you search for it. There's also a mention of it in the "UK Elohimfest 2004" thread in the general SRD discussion.
It may well happen in our lifetimes.
Enjoy the board, we're always pleased to have new and participating members.

Quite possibly, but I still hope to see Covenant on the big screen. While I thought that only myself and my buddy back home really enjoyed these books, I took a look at the memberlist on this site and was really taken back by how many people there are!
With the technology that was employed in the LOTR series, the Covenant series could really be impressive. The vastness of the Land, the mystical powers, Vain, the Giants, all could be depicted accurately and believably.

Unbelievable??

It's certainly possible, but accurately and believeably in whose perception? No doubt we all have our idea of what they look like, and equally without doubt, our ideas will differ in some respects.
It's impossible not to disappoint somebody. I suppose that as long as SRD has enough input to make sure that they match his vision, we'll have to be content with that.

The Gap is a series of five books starting with 'the Real Story'. It's science fiction and very good! It starts off with a (relatively) minor event that has massive consequences throughout the remaining four books. In the second book (Forbidden Knowledge) an alien race, the Amnion, are introduced that are, in my opinon, one of the best alien races in sci-fi.kusojiji wrote:Btw, what is the Gap? I haven't read that series.
It is unrelenting in it's pace and energy, and the characters are put through extreme situations. There is alot of intrigue, back-stabbing, and manipulation. The series can be hard to read because it has many many harsh scenes, but most of the characters manage to overcome these events and 'shine'.
It has a large amount of action, and the last 3 books pretty much take place within a few days. I love the series, and it was got me into SRD's work (having been recommended to read the Gap by a lecturer). Read it, Kusojiji - you won't be disappointed.
I think of all SRD's series, Mordant's Need would translate best to screen...it's the simplest, really, but with fabulous characters and a great backdrop.
Halfway down the stairs Is the stair where I sit. There isn't any other stair quite like it. I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top; So this is the stair where I always stop.
Well I agree regarding the classical storyline and imagery... it actually has more sexual violence than most SRD works.Nav wrote:I'd agree with that, there's some wonderful imagery going on in Mordant's (haven't decided if pun is intended or not) without the problematic sexual violence of SRD's other works. It's got the most classical storyline, too.

After reading your posts on the movie idea, what you really need to realize is that from a production point of view, if you want to submit a screenplay it has to be under 120 pages. if you can't do that you can't even get your script read. Personally I don't see one book in any of the TC series translatable in any fashion to under 120 pages. That alone will make it hard for anyone to make the movie.
Hold peace and grief and be still.

*shrug* they managed to get LOTR made, somehow...they had to cut a lot, but it happened.

Nah, I don't think they cut too much at all...and while they did cut a lot of important things (to the books), they always had a good reason for it...
I'm actually quite a staunch defender of the movies, despite being a long-time fan of the books
