You can pump millions of dollars into a project, pack it with cutting edge technology-but if it is poorly acted, with crappy dialogue, has no charactar developement, and to be honest has a really vague, hard to follow story line-its still gonna suck! And as much as I love the first starwars trilogy-I mean love! The new set of films, well lets just say no matter how much visual wow you stuff in them, well you just can't polish a turd.

Yeah, the last 2 are really lame. I think where Lucas made his error was in not going forward. The prequel could have been better told/accepted as flashbacks - long flashbacks - in another story. If he had continued on with characters we all loved/cared about - Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy - and brought up the fall of the Republic and Anakin, it would have been soooo much better.

No one really cares about Mom & Pop Skywalker. Dull. Dull. Dull. Take away the FX and you have absolutely nothing. Hopefully this 3rd one will be what should have been all along.
Old man how is it that you hear these things?
Young man how is it that you do not?

I think when Lucas first announced he was making Episodes I to III, it seemed like a cool idea at the time. We were starved for anything Star Wars.

But now...I agree that the excitement level would have been way higher if it had been Episode IX we were anticipating--a grand conclusion to the entire SW saga--and not merely Episode III. There's only so much gossip and speculation you can chat about when you already know exactly what happens in the next three films...

Still, I look forward to Revenge of the Sith. For those who believe in SW as a 9-part saga, it's nice to be able to point to Episodes I to VI and say: There! 6 down, 3 to go!

Now that the prequels are out of his hair, I really do hope Lucas will one day make the final three Episodes. Or allow someone else to make them--that is, direct them, with Lucas as exec producer. That method worked brilliantly with Empire Strikes Back, so why not try it again? It would be good to have SW looked at by fresh eyes.

My understanding is that Luca$ has rewritten history and now claims there were only supposed to be 6 films not the 9 that anyone around in 1977 may remember.

It's funny, we were talking about this at work the other day, but who really cares about how Aniken became Darth Vader? Interesting little twist, but to make 3 movies about it? Come on!

I would have liked to see the series progress, but the fact is, that's not gonna happen, so as far as I'm concerned, Star Wars is a trilogy, and there's no such movie as "A New Hope".

Actually, I very much wanted to hear the story of Anakin, but then again I'm one of those rare few people who actually like and enjoy Episodes I and II. Except for that damn Jar Jar, of course.

I'm with you on this, I really hope that it gets done. It's certainly possible, if he starts right away.

And dlbpharmd, I gotta say, I enjoyed I and II as well. (Apart from bloody Jar-Jar). For me, it wasn't the actual movies per se, but the concept, the chance to see the Jedi in action as the force that they were in peoples memories in IV, V and VI.

I loved it. Sure, there were a few annoying bits, but hell, seeing the Jedi in top form almost makes up for it.

I agree with the prevailing opinion that 7 through 9 should have been made, rather than 1 through 3. Like Trek's failing Enterprise, when you do a prequel last, you interfere with consistency and continuity, and this is only made worse with the obvious improvements in special effects for the so-called "earlier" timeline movies.

Having said that, I will still be in line opening weekend for Sith.

So Lucas is crying all the way to the bank.

And those waiting for the 7 through 9 conclusion had better have long lifespans. We have a better chance of seeing the final three volumes of A Song of Ice and Fire by 2010.

Well I have to admit I will be in line too.But this one better not dissapoint! My memories of seeing episodes 3-5 when I was a child are so warm and cherished,no these new films can't ruin them...........but I thought that I would get that feeling again,I don't know if you saw them as children or adults, but I can tell you that the spark of imagination they created was powerful, coming out of the theater air swishing your light sabre-a natural high that lasted for hours. The closest I got to this feeling was Yodas dual in episode 2.Could be I'm just jaded now and my sense of wonder has been eroded away by lifes trials and modern technology. That said:George Lucas I have tape,a dartboard and I'm sure I can download a picture of you..............I hope you redeem yourself with episode 3,but if you foul it up completely I will play pub games with you face 20 points for the eyes,10 for the nose and 5 for the beard.
