Half Life 2: Episode Three, or better yet, Half Life 3!
Rumblings from Valve make me think one of the above is in the works.

It's ridiculous how much fun the first game is. It only cost $10 on Steam, but it easily beats most AAA games I've played.
Seriously, if you haven't played it yet, go buy it now.

My top 3 right now:
1. The Last Guardian - I'm hearing that this should be out by the end of year, but I'm not holding my breath. After the long wait for Shadows of the Colossus burning through several "release dates," I expect this by the end of 2012, but will be happy if we get it by mid 2012.
2. Diablo 3 - Blizzard always does a good job, and it will be one of the rare times these days that I'll put money down on a PC game. I used to scoff at console players, but then got so damn fed up keeping my fingers crossed that I'd be able to play the latest and greatest after downloading tons of patches and looking through forums for hope that I finally became a console player. Now with the PS3 anyway, I'm back to the days of downloading damn patches. Why can't the shit work right out of the box?
3. Batman: Arkham City - The first was such a surprise to me, as I typically don't like this type of game, but there was so much going on within the game, and it was just so damn fun to play.

I enjoyed Arkham Asylum, but since I sold my XBox I don't know if I'll get the sequel. I'm not sure how well a 3rd person action game will work on the PC.

That part didn't work too well on the Xbox either.Murrin wrote:Works fine. Go for it.
Only bit that didn't quite work was the sequence where you have to run away from Killer Croc through a series of screens with a fixed camera, which meant you have to control all your movement with the keyboard.

Well, there were many ways to approach combat in the game, and it made it fun for me. Particularly the sneaky take-downs. The out and out combat, especially with bosses, tended to bore me. But there were a few clever things you could do there, so it made it a bit more interesting than the usual fighting games.Murrin wrote:I enjoyed Arkham Asylum, but didn't you think the combat was a little one-note? All the fights were basically the same. Even Joker turned into a big hulk that you had to dodge and stun.

RockSmith
Like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, except that you use a real guitar. As in, any real guitar you want can be plugged in and used.
I'm keeping my eye on this one. I bought an acoustic guitar a few years back, but left it in the corner for 6 months before giving up and selling it. This might motivate me to learn to play for real.

As someone who is currently learning guitar via Rock Band 3, I have to say that Rocksmith sounds pretty good. I might pick this up if pickups for acoustics aren't too much. The interface looks hideous, but if it works like they say, it should be a great tool, and they definitely point out one of the flaws of Rock Band 3 which is the huge learning curve between difficulties for those who are inexperienced. However, it sounds like Rocksmith is just a guitar game/learning tool, which Rock Band 3 wins out over for multiplayer fun, multiple instruments and currently amount of song choice. But for those who want to learn guitar and are incapable of sitting down with a book and learning it, or too cheap to afford lessons, this sounds like a great alternative, again provided it does what it says on release. See the Rock Band 3 thread for details on my struggle to learn from their version of guitar learnin'.

(Not quite the appropriate topic, but close enough!)
Not my kind of game, but this trailer for Dead Island is incredible.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Game Informer just gave it a perfect score of 10, so now I'm curious.Holsety wrote:I'm interested in seeing how The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword turns out, so I preordered it. We shall see what we shall see...
