Book-buying in the UK

Post by Worm of Despite »

When I go to London this May, I'll be carrying a good bit of spending cash--roughly 800$. Definitely going to bring back some nice trinkets. I've seen some beautiful editions of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and the Silmarillion at Amazon.uk.

Not sure what else to get, though. What are the TC editions like in the UK? Any other great books I should be on the lookout for? Thanks!

Runes is printed in English English over here, you could pick up a copy for the novelty value.

Ignore the big bookshops, unless you want a special edition of something new. Instead, haunt the charity shops and hunt through the shelves of 2nd hand books, the biggest boon to the book-shopper that anywhere has. You'll find one on practically every high street, and you'll be able to pick up books for a song.

OK, nothing really brand new, or recently published, but if you make the effort, there are some real gems tucked away that you can get for a pittance.

Last time I was there, I shipped home 3 packing boxes of books. It's especially great for picking up missing bits of any series, and some real classics as well. In fact, there's a bit of everything, you just have to find it.
