Kiki's Delivery Service

Post by Usivius »

What a great movie!
Hey I know Miziaki (sp) makes great movies (I own Spirited Away and Princess Monenoke already), but this one is a pur gem. It is the first movie I have seen in recent history that doesn't have a 'bad guy' antogonist. In fact, there are no antagonists at all! And yet there are laughs and adventures. This is THE perfect movie for young kids. My 3 year old loved it and my overly-sensitive wife did not have to ask to fas-forward through any 'scary' parts

Great stuff!

Anyone seen his other one... uh, Floating Castle ... or Castle in the Sky ... or something like that?...

No, but I saw Spirited Away. And Grave of the Fireflies, though it's not exactly Miyazaki.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Been meaning to explore the world of Miyazaki more. Spirited Away is among my favorite animated films, to be sure. I've currently got my eye set on getting Cowboy Bepop, though.

NO WAY! I'm so glad I bought the book. If there's anybody I trust to make high-quality product, it's Miyazaki. I doubt he'll disappoint.

And I'm glad you are enjoying the book. :) My younger son has recently read both Wizard of Earthsea and The Tombs of Atuan and loves them as much as I do. :)

Personally, I didn't enjoy Cowboy BeBop all that much. Can't point to anything wrong with it, just didn't think it was that great. Just a personal opinion though. Can't help feeling that it could have been much better. *shrug*
