Given the rapid progress we are making in detection methods and devices I'm not suprised that humankind is constantly finding new previously undiscovered objects though this one to the casual observer would appear to be simply a neutron star with a few unique properties.

We just found God's toy slinky and you call it "simple"?
You're a tough one to impress.

The casual observer might have some trouble seeing these objects at all ;)

Depending on how you define seeing, I think just about everyone would. ;)
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

they are never before seen neutron like stars that pulse slower than normal ones basically, and what this means is that with this new data, new stars can be discovered and old data can be reexamined for these types of anamolies, and new conclusions drawn and new worlds discovered in the golden age of technospace!

but really it's just because it's new, that it's news, heh... ;)
