Ok, in all seriousness, when should I open the FR Forum?

Heh, ok, now that I've had my fun with the Fatal Revenant Forum, I guess we should figure out what we should do with it. There's a bunch of options we can take, and I'm pretty flexible, so let me know what you think.
I guess it depends on how you all feel like managing all of the FR speculation topics.
One option is to simply leave it all in the Runes forum for now, and open the FR Forum later.
Another option that I see is to simply merge all FR discussion with the Runes Forum, and turn it into a sort of "Last Chronicles" Forum.
Or, another option is to just open the blasted forum now, and let people speculate about FR in there separately from Runes. Heh.
So yeah, since I like making things complicated, I made a poll, so everyone can argue about it. Heh.-jay

The Runes forum opened when ARC spoilers first appeared - the same should probably apply. It'd be a spoiler forum, after all - uninformed speculation belongs in the Runes forum (which should perhaps transform itself into a "Last Chronicles Forum" at some point, with a specific forum only for the most recent book?).

Re: Ok, in all seriousness, when should I open the FR Forum?
PLEASE do nothing of the sort until well after most of us have had a chance to read all of the Last Chronicles!!!kevinswatch wrote:Another option that I see is to simply merge all FR discussion with the Runes Forum, and turn it into a sort of "Last Chronicles" Forum.

That way, we can still discuss the individual books, even if we haven't finished ALL the books yet.
I am in favor of leaving the FR forum closed till the ARC comes out.
Besides, it's fun to complain about it and give you a hard time about the locked forum.

I think it's about time Runes merged with TC Discussion (afterall, 1st and 2nd Chrons aren't separate forums). Indeed, there already seems to be a few posts in TC about what's happened in Runes. Now a forum is needed where people could post *possible* spoilers (you remember how upset some people were when things SRD alluded to were mentioned in the open, even though they weren't exactly spoilers). So, I vote for "merge."
Foul, that is the worst idea ever. You really want to give dAN another forum to moderate?

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Merging Runes with the TC Discussion forum? I don't think I am ready for that, yet, though I think it's something to think about for the future.Syl wrote:I think it's about time Runes merged with TC Discussion (afterall, 1st and 2nd Chrons aren't separate forums). I voted for "when the ARC is released" too.
I can see the value in keeping "Runes" a separate forum for awhile longer. When the Watch started, the Covenant books had been around for 20 years or so, so it was no big deal to talk about all six books in one forum. But the Last Chrons are still pretty new, so I can see them having a separate forum from the 1st and 2nd Chrons. Maybe not one for each of the four books. But maybe keeping the Runes forum separate from Fatal Revenant until Shall Pass Utterly is out; then rolling the first two books into one forum with Shall Pass Utterly in its own forum until The Last Dark is out; and so on. Eventually (when we're all doddering wrecks) we could roll them all into one.
The point of having a forum for the newest book, after all, is to keep folks mindful of spoilers as they post. Having an individual forum for each new book as it's published should mitigate that problem.
Am I stating the blatantly obvious? If so, sorry. It's Monday....

Well, it looks like ARC is winning. Personally, I think that's the best choice.
So I'm thinking of doing what aliantha suggested. I don't think we should merge everything into the TC Forum. Mainly because it's so big already, and also because it'll help people who are trying to avoid new chronicles spoilers. Yeah, I know both the 1st and 2nd Chronicles are in the TC Forum...but that was done way back when the Watch was started, and I was too stupid/lazy to split the forum into two. And now it would be way too much work to split it now. But I think it'd be good to keep the new Chronicles separate from the old Chronicles.
So we'll keep things the way they are for now. Runes will keep it's own forum, and all of the Fatal Revenant speculation can go in there. Then when the ARC is released, and people start buzzing about FR more, we'll open up the FR Forum.
And yeah, like aliantha said, maybe when Shall Pass Utterly comes out we can merge Runes and Revenant into one Last Chronicles forum.
Yay for the status quo! Haha.-jay

I definitely agree with Jay that the Runes forum should be kept seperate.
I'd guess that the TC forum was done the way it was partly because all the books had long since been published when the Watch started up, so chances were that by the time you arrived, most people had read them all anyway.
If I had my druthers, I druther that there was a "Last Chrons" forum, and each book had it's own sub-forum. (If the sub-forums ever come back that is.)
With such recently published books, there's also a bigger chance of people only having read Runes. By keeping them seperate, it'll also make modding for spoilers easier.
