LibraryThing

I don't know if you have already discovered it around here, but there is a nice new website that allows you to enter all your books and make a virtual library shelf. It is called LibraryThing, and can be found at: www.librarything.com. If you want to browse my catalog, go to: www.librarything.com/ca...

Good choices, Fist! In the same vein as "Mention beer": mention that the Haruchai haven't had sex for 500 years. *That* oughta get a discussion going.... I think so too, but where is this 500 years coming from? The Bloodguard was MUCH older than that, and the haruchai themselves liv...

99 out of 100 Danes wouldn’t give a toss, unless they wanted to use mock outrage to demonstrate that “All muslims are SOB’s”. Wasn't it in Denmark that a priest said that although he didn't really believe in Jesus he could not see that this should be a problem with him continuing as a priest?

Re: You and Unbelief

On my latest reread I really noticed how I and Covenant have drastically different views in some respects. It wasn't that I wanted Covenant to be a fantasy hero, but I noticed he was very much a different personality. I'd say Covenant is INFP (which I think SRD is also, the typical type for a ficti...

In Norwegian, and probably in most Scandinavian languages, the ur prefix still means (among other things) first and original. Either in the sense that this is the first of something, or that it belongs to the original kind of something. I always assumed that the title ur-Lord was a honorary granted ...

I have just started reading J. V. Jones' "A Cavern of Black Ice". Don't know enough to say if it is good or not.

I am going to be very conventional and just say that I really like 'The Lord of the Rings'. Of more obscure things there are several, let me just recommend Roger Zelazny. His books are usually good. With a few which are just average.

(Forgot to mention the Earthsea books by Ursula K. LeGuin.)

I was always more fond of the dramatic "There is Wild Magic graven in every rock..." :)

It has the virtue of almost being a users manual for white gold, and like all such it cannot be understood by mere mortals.

Just as I switched into this thread my Media Player was turning on Townes Van Zandt's 'For the sake of the song' but by now it is well into 'Sixteen Summers, Fifteen Falls'.

This is one of the greatest fantasy series out there, certainly. My only problem with it is that the quite complex "Gardens of the Moon" might not be the best place to start a series as big as this one. Starting 'in medias res' might come highly recommended, but you really should take the ...

I will just jump in here with a literary reference, in case someone doesn't already know it. Elisabeth Moon has written a book in which the main (viewpoint) character has an autistic condition (maybe it was AS). The book is called the "Speed of Dark" and won the Nebula Award in 2003 (I thi...

Doesn't it stand to reason that if you can travel in time you can visit past ages? That would be the only way for Vain and Findail to enter the picture IMO.

But what about AMOK?

I have always figured that the SoL was kind of 'the white gold' of Earthpower. In other words, it was not really about the laws of the earth but about who had 'control' of Earthpower. When the staff was destroyed there was no way to keep Earthpower on track and thus LF was able to use it for his own...

I have not heard either of the other versions, but I do not doubt that the Cash version is the best. :)

In fact, many, if not most, of Cash's hits have been other people's work. Including one of my own favorites "Sunday Morning Coming Down".

You know what, come to think about it, there is a "Jesus Bus" in my old town with images of Jesus and the disciples painted on the outside for all to see. I think I need to write a letter to my senator---that bus should not be allowed to drive on public state-owned roads. If the state let...

I doubt it's Cash's own lyrics. As far as I can remember almost nothing on the American recordings albums were his own work.

Further, "Personal Jesus" does not sound or feel like any of his own (earlier) work, although he may have changed style from those earlier records.
