1) The rape of Lena 2) Elena drinking the Earthblood and summoning Kevin - NO, DON'T DO THAT!!! 3) The kiddies sticking their hands in the fire. Followed not far behind by: the plight of the Haruchai at the start of the 2nd Chrons, the razor bun, and Trell gouging fingermarks in the stone of Revelst...

Its not recorded anywhere what Foul's alias was when he was on Kevin's council is it? I'm assuming he wasn't using the name "Foul the Despiser" at the time, might have given even Kevin reason to pause to think "maybe I shouldn't trust this guy"... I've always read the "ur-&q...

I was ok with him til he raped Lena. The aftermath of the battle was pretty much his worst point. From there redemption was going to require something special, but I guess saving the world falls within that category. I started to like him when he went to the bar at the start of TIW with the truckie....

Hmmm... Kevin can't have made the Word too hard to get past, otherwise the new Lords would not have been able to get to it if, as presumably Kevin hoped, they mastered the First Ward - not without wild magic anyway. From what you read about ur-viles they should have, with time, been able to dismantl...

If I recall correctly, the Cail and Brinn were the only males not restrained - TC was fully affected, but was tied to a mast from memory. So I don't think they particularly targeted the Haruchai. The Haruchai would be a long way from the first otherwise strong, competent, and totally focussed men to...

Reading through Reave the Just for the first time at the moment, and I have to say I'm finding Penance a real drag compared to the stories before it, esp. The Killing Stroke. I've probably read too much vampire fiction to find it a particularly fresh or original piece, unlike killing stroke or the s...

That's a great theory. He seemed a strange fit for the world of the 'Land' - his method of magic, behaviour, and personality would be a much better fit if he'd been plucked from Earth and stuck with a croyel...

Great effort Lament! Elena was certainly a captivating character - SRD captured her allure and strength, and finally her insanity, exceedingly well. For what its worth, I think the Ranyhin did have a purpose in taking Elena to the horserite beyond honouring TC. They knew the servants of the land wer...

Found it (paperback) at a second hand book store and read it in about 30mins. Quite good, but not up to the very lofty standard of the 'canon' material that made it into the Chronicles. SPOILER (kinda, you know the broadstrokes if you've read the Chronicles): I really liked the bit about Kevin decli...

I tend to picture them as black beings with no distinct head (ie. no neck or shoulders), rather short, with large noses, slit-ish mouths, pointed heads, in rag like ropes, with short, animal like arms and legs. Almost like black, strong, bad-ass armadillos who have stood upright and grown opposable ...

Which brings me to my question... what the hell does "roynish" mean. I've never seen the word anywhere else, or been able to find it in the dictionary. The closest I've been able to find is "roy" as a word stem for "regal"...

My wife and I have white gold wedding rings. She hasn't read the books and I didn't explain the connection as she probably wouldn't appreciate thinking I wanted them for a character in a book. She prefers silver jewellry anyway, so it wasn't difficult to persuade her...

My thoughts on the likely origin of Kevin's Dirt. This is based on the assumption that the ability to see health is, for "normal" humans, a manifestation of their interaction with Earthpower. I also have to go back to Runes and check my facts that Kevin's Dirt began to manifest AFTER the M...

It was pretty clear that the Masters invented the name "Kevin's Dirt" because they deemed the blindness it causes to be like that which overcame Kevin near the end. I doubt it will have anything to do with Kevin in the end, but was given that name to give the characters to reflect on the e...

I didn't find Runes to be a disappointment, although I'm certainly hoping that a lot of the setting up that SRD's done is going to be paid of in style in FR and points onwards. There were a few things that annoyed me, and obviously its quite different from the first and second chronicles. That said,...
