She Who Must Not Be Named is going to help Covenant defeat Lord Foul. Stave will die. Covenant will come to serve a purpose similar to what he was as Timewarden -- he'll somehow become what Donaldson likes to call the "strictures" of the universe again. The Creator will almost certainly re...

Stave's line to Infelice is great. Coincidentally, I thought some of Donaldson's most beautiful descriptions were of that loathsome Elohim : Imperial and proud, she confronted Linden. Adorned in gems and rich music, and clad in sendaline woven and glittering like the stuff of dreams, the woman advan...

The Vikings have just waived Randy Moss. He is now available on waivers, and can be claimed by any of the Leagues 32 franchises. Let me be the first to say Yay! How much do you want to bet the Vikings just got better? Now how many teams are going to let him fall past them? Welcome to Buffalo Randy,...

It warms my cold New England heart immensely to be seeing the Yankees lose Game 4 right now. If they lose this game, the series becomes exceedingly hard for them to win with Lee pitching Game 7. As for the NLCS, this is the best one I can remember watching for a while. Two great teams, evenly matche...

Just came across this fragment from a pre-Socratic philosopher in some readings for school that applies here: If oxen and horses and lions had hands and were able to draw with their hands and do the same things as men, horses would draw the shapes of gods to look like horses and oxen to look like ox...

Scot, I recently came across the ASOIAF Wiki. Been reading through lots of entries and I'm reminded of why I love the books so much. (There's a lot to catch up on but I remember most things.) I sort of suppressed all thoughts about the series because I knew how long it'd be till ADWD. I hope you are...

"We'll always have Paris" from Casablanca.

A personal albeit less iconic favorite of mine would have to be the final scene of Billy Wilder's lovely film The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. A beautiful tragicomic masterpiece, I highly recommend it.

The limits of my language mean the limits of my world. I'm pretty sure he backed off from that, and nearly 100% sure he said [paraphrased] "That doesn't mean what you think it does." That's awfully flippant. But, yeah, he didn't always hold that position. He later of course said there's a...

It's a local past time to bitch about the T , Boston's public transportation system, and often with good reason , but in many ways it's one of the best public transit systems in the country. We have an extensive subway and rapid transit that extends into the metropolitan area, tons of bus lines thro...

Little late on this, but as a B's fan, games 4-7 were the most painful games of hockey I have ever watched. It's weird to be rooting for the Habs but even before the Flyers beat us I thought they were the most unlikable team in the NHL. I still think Chicago will win the Cup.

The National's High Violet . A complete masterpiece. Anyone else listen to these guys? Yes, sir. I'm seeing them at the House of Blues in June actually. I really like the new record. I'm listening to a piece called Proverb by Steve Reich; it's an organ and vocal piece with my signature as lyrics.

Hmm, ideally I would much prefer to meet Watchers back in Boston but it looks like I'll be in CT. If anybody is in Mystic and has some free time, shoot me a line and maybe we could work something out since I'm so close. That includes Xar and Fist. And by the way, when you're in Salem, Xar, be sure t...

Yo, Xar: I go to college in Connecticut but live right outside Boston. I'll be at home all summer until the last weekend in August, at which point I'll move back to CT. So I'm not sure where this leaves my prospects of a Watchfest in our region (which I would love incidentally and it'd be great to w...
