That's awesome.

They do work on carpet.

Hello Av! Feeling bucked already by the replies to my post. :D
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

I'm going to Norway in May. Been thinking about it for years, spent the last week or so convincing myself to do it, and today went ahead and booked flights and hotels. I'm starting in Bergen, travelling up to Flam via Naeroyfjord, then taking the train to Oslo. There's a little uncertainty because I have to buy tickets on the Bergen to Flam bit after I get there, but it should be okay...

I'm weighing the pros and cons of this.

So far under pros I have:

No DST.
Efficient tax system.

Under cons:

Spiders the size of small dogs.

Well, you're clearly a person who is right about to hit 8k on the Kevin's Watch forum... that's something important about who you are, right?

Yo. How goes?

The whole energy needed to invest in convincing oneself to organize a trip you want to go on... I get that!
But... you did it!

Io, welcome back! Cag, welcome back! Stevie, welcome back! :D

Enjoy Norway Muffin! I've never been to that part of the world before.

I'm glad it's Friday, I've run out of steam for this week (which is why I'm here :D ). There have also been a couple of friends/family that have recently been struck down with a nasty, aggressive cancer. The most recent passed away last night - I didn't know that he was even that sick. I knew he was sick. That's life I guess, but it still sucks sometimes.

I am back, albeit in an observer mode right now, and approaching a cross roads in my life. Can't share much but there will be many changes coming in the next few months, hopefully good ones.

That's... brutal.

I know some of the reasons why people don't talk about how serious their health situation is; thinking they'll "spare" someone they love, or maybe they're skittish from the last FOUR intense conversations they had on the topic...
We're not used to conversations that dance on the edge of grappling with mortality.
But then.. :(

This recent loss... friend or family member?

Easy there, tiger.

In the eschaton, when all tales are told, I, for one, expect hear that some of the best deeds I've done were refraining from speaking at times!

on a more present scale.. there are some of us who just get tied in knots over what to say, and what not to say, and how to say it! (and I'm one of those people!)
It's exhausting.

Cag, you've stopped on the precipice of 8K deliberately, haven't you? :P

Rob, looking forward to hearing all about it. 8)

Murrin, your vacation sounds awesome. Good for you for booking the tickets. :) I can't tell you how many people I've run into lately who say they'd never take a trip by themselves. Women, mostly, but still. Seems weird to me.

Linna, the good thing about spazzy kids is that eventually they grow out of it. Usually. ;)

The problem with refraining from speaking is that nobody ever knows you've done so. ;) Anyway...context is everything.

I feel good. Starting my leave today. (Well, technically tomorrow, today is a public holiday.) Only go back to work on the 5th April.

I would say that two of the most important lessons I've learned in life thus far are knowing when to keep my mouth shut and knowing how to say NO. But yes, context is everything.

Temp boss said today that he wants to take me with him when he leaves. I told him we should talk about that. Not sure how serious I am - it'd be a lateral move that would add a minimum of two hours to my daily commute (on an icky bus), and my schedule would probably change. Definitely going to take some time to weigh all the pros and cons, but my current short commute and having weekends off are about the only pros my current job has. Is spending 500+ hours a year on the icky bus and losing weekends worth it for a boss who doesn't treat me like an ancillary? Especially considering the turnover rate - he could be replaced by someone worse tomorrow, and then what? I've never been good at taking risks where employment is concerned. Then again, that's probably why I've had so many crap jobs. What I really should do is go to trade school or something, which I've been saying for years and keep talking myself out of because if you want to be a locksmith or electrician or whatever, you need a truck to carry around all your tools and parts and whatnot, and I can't drive. But there has to be a better option. I'm getting too old for this.

I don't expect anyone to actually read all that - sometimes just writing it out helps me think.

If you write it, we'll read it. :D

Definitely talk to him about it. Would it add more pay? Other pros? Why should you give up your weekends? What will you get out of it?

If he's serious, he should make it worth it to you.
