Welcome to the retirement club ... aint life grand .. well more accurately for us ... less grand .. but quality of life 100 percent more grand

We live simpler but sooooo much better now. We have our very small business enterprise which pays the bills but our health is 100 percent improved, including my husband whos suffered significant set backs because of it.

We get more fresh air, we spend more time in the garden, and the business gives us something we enjoy doing. Hope youre similarly benefiting from retirement .. and I will msn you 😁

Jealous of all you retirees... :D I've got...hang on, lemme check the app on my phone...517 days before I'm eligible. Although the real number is probably 725 or so. I'll bore you with the particulars eventually. ;)

Somehow I missed responding to this poll when it was first posted, which is probably just as well, as I'm in the over-60 club as of this past December. The Watch is aging, it's true, but we don't have anybody over 70 yet (or at least no one who will admit to it!).

Im not far behind you Ali ❀️ And 725 days 😬 .. oh thatll gooo soooo quickly 8O .. hahahaha .. no it really, really will.

Roll on to your retirement I say 😘

Its sad you have to wait .. Trev retired first .. at 50yrs and went out in style .. the benefits of working for Government for most of our lives .. I had no plans to retire for several years after that but things worked out in my favour, they were restructuring and I took a package and left at 55yrs and have not looked back. Not a sausage of regret ;)

And life could not be better :P so highly recommend it... when you get there in 725 days ;)

Belated Happy B'day...

kid :P

Remember what your parents said?

"Respect your Elders"

You going to begin a journey where trying to find them gets harder and
harder every year.
One day you won't be able to find any.
Then you will notice faces who gaze upon you with smiles and awe.
then you will think to yourself.

"Who you lookin at Willis!
and
Hey! You durn kids.. Get off my lawn!
What's this silver looking ring doing on my finger?

For years I worked outside on the farms, which in the UK can be a hard ask in bad weather. I now work inside under fluorescent lights which I think is waayy more damaging than people realise (I'm not alone in this - loads of people from our local hospital have made the same observation to me over the years) and would give my right nut to be back out under the sky! Yes it's hard - but it's much more natural for us given the hundred thousand years of practice we had at it before the office was invented.

ok ... bet you get some "nibbles" ;) .. some interest.

You know why?? Cos its hard to find good people these days who know their way around a farm, around horses, cattle, sheep and all livestock, dogs, poultry etc.. ;)

I'm not sure there would be much of a market for it these days Sky, even still attached to the rest of my body  .

:LOLS:

So .. lol I was speaking metaphorically ;) .. so maybe lets set aside your right nut for now ..

The skills you have are very much in demand today .. your ability to work with animals and livestock in particular .. well also horses .. there is at least a generation of movement away from farming in general. Tertiary culture and pathways .. dont lead to farming. Dont get me wrong .. there are plenty of agricultural degrees that are of high value and ADD VALUE to the industry in total .. but people who can work the land, work with animals and livestock .. not so much.

But its hard graft .. and as one ages .. one is less able to muck in .. but .. if its a passion .. and something you enjoy and its a hellova lot healthier than working under fluorescent lighting ..

As long as youre not stooping over asparagus, strawberries etc .. ;)

Great avatar FireSon! I was alas too late joining the Watch to get to know your mum, but gosh is she highly thought of here! I just visited the thread Fist posted for her, and that feeling pours out of every post.

This is indeed your spiritual home. Of The Watch, like many things in life it waxes and wanes - but chiefly above all, The Watch abides. Also , like the Law of the Jungle, it runs forward and back.

Now this is the Law of the Jungle,
The Law it runs forward and back.
As the strength of the pack is the wolf,
So the strength of the wolf is the pack.

So it is with The Watch.

Welcome home FireSon ❀️ I loved your mum so very much .. and am proud to call her friend. She is very much loved here by all who knew her. Though we never met in person, we talked very often. Im in Australia and have never had the pleasure of meeting any US Watchers. She is very much missed .. though her presence is felt here.

Your mum is one of those rare gems, one of a kind, unique and her kind, so sadly, are few and far between.

Be welcome among us young man, welcome and true 😘

Seconded! Don't know if you've read 'the books' FireSon, but may-hap you will spearhead the next generation of Watchers. The Watch is yours; make of it what you will!

Thanks for the welcome back :-)

Fisty's tribute thread to my mom is beautiful. I read through it when I first joined the Watch about 4 years ago and just reread it again the other day. The out pouring of love everyone here has for her is amazing.

And oh yes, I've read all the Covenant books, Mordant's Need, The Gap and the short story collections. Out of all of them, the first and second chronicles are my favorites. Especially the Wounded Land...the devastation of that book is a gut punch.

I've been thinking about joining the group readings, starting with the chapters my mom dissected and branching out from there. :-)

Totally agree with you FireSon; First and Second Chrons are out in front my favourites! Have you read the Last Chronicles? That's a serious chunk of reading for a young person to have achieved. Respect!

Yeah, I also found TWL the most impactful of the books.
