 I was just about finishing reading Enid Blyton books when I was 10.

(Who incidentally, I will not have a word said against, in terms of her stories excellence as a means of introducing children to the joys of reading.)

Absolutely. I'm in favor of anything that gets kids to read. (Working at a bookstore, one of the challenges I both loved and dreaded was having to recommend something for a kid who didn't like reading.)

I was 14 when I first started reading SRD. Helped me get through some bad times.

Think I was 12 or 13 when somebody gave me LFB.

Fireson had an advantage though...his mother was Furls, so she was probably just waiting for him to get old enough to read it. :D

I'm looking at this thinking that it won't be all that long till I will have advanced to my third group.

I remember reading Peter Benchley's Jaws when I was about 8 or so. I got to the part where Hooper gets it on with Brody's wife, and I was like, "Why would anyone do an icky thing with a married someone?" It just didn't make sense. Get to the shark already!

Well, the stale poll data is the sticky bit. Other than that, the thread isn't anywhere near the four nines, so it could remain a while.

If there were a way to move away from "one and done" voting so we could update as we age (like fine wine, not like leftovers!), there'd be no issue.

AFAIK, not without abandoning this thread and starting a new (Age Group Poll V) thread...or if Vain notices my entreaty and can work the requisite magic.

Not as far as I know, and almost certainly not on our aging software. :D

Anyway, we only get a new one when I move up a bracket. ;)

(Check out the first post in this thread. :D )

I mean, I guess I'm happy to stay in the 50-59 bracket for however long it takes Av to move up one more... ;)
