Good to see you around Ali. Yeah, it's been a public holiday in SA for many years already. In fact, August is Women's Month, not that it does much to reduce the amount of GBV unfortunately.
Seems the project I'm overseeing will not (despite our best attempts) be finished today, so I will probably be keeping tabs on it next week despite being on leave, but that's life.

I finally had the follow up with the surgeon regarding the results from the procedure I had last month. Both areas came back cancer free (yay!), however a plan has been put in place to watch my bladder, as it had positive markers of potential future concern. But for now, unless the symptoms which started this whole process occur again, which they haven't since I started pursuing this, I need not worry about it until next year.
Thank you all for your well wishes, healing love, white light, and prayers.

Good news, Menolly! And hopefully good news, Sarge!
Good to be back. Still getting the stupid "the Watch is malicious!" notice from my new ISP - which is to say their built-in internet nanny software has us flagged.
They sent a tech out last week to check the speed - the problem was apparently on their end - but of course that did nothing to fix my access issue. Their dumb McAfee software is also blocking AVG from updating, and I also can't get my purchased products downloaded from the 3D graphics software website I've been using to make book covers. So I am going to have to call CenturyLink next week and raise holy hell with them about McAfee.
Had another internet-related issue, too: I have an Amazon FireStick that worked fine at the old place. I got it hooked up to the interwebz here just fine, then took some time picking out something to watch. When I went to download the show, suddenly the FireStick said the internet wasn't working anymore and I would have to hardwire the device to the modem via an ethernet cable. Huh? I found out there's a dongle for that purpose, but it's also possible my FireStick is kaput. I ordered a new FireStick and it's here, but before I install it, I'm going to try the old one again and see if it still can't find the interwebz.
In other news, I went to the MDV this past week to get a new driver's license, only to learn that I need an appointment (thanks, COVID-19) and their next available appointment was in October.
So I made the appointment. That's kinda sorta holding up my transferring of my voter registration to New Mexico. And I *need* to get that fixed before November 3rd...

Can you turn McAfee off? Running two antivirus problems will cause conflicts. Never used AVG, but I can't stand McAfee.aliantha wrote:Their dumb McAfee software is also blocking AVG from updating, and I also can't get my purchased products downloaded from the 3D graphics software website I've been using to make book covers.

Creams are not generally recommended around wounds (which heal much better when dry) but can be used to 'deflect' the itching sensation into another more bearable form of sensation. Deep Heat (or the US equivalent - one of those strained muscle type creams) applied judiciously to the area might help? (Really careful with the application - try a very small amount first. They can be ferocious!)

The cast is on for two weeks until I get the stitches out. Then I will get pictures of the ruins of my snklevfor you to gaze in wonder at.
It should be awesome. I believe they cut into three different places. I had the original scar from age 16 and the scar from some 6 years ago.

Hahaha, sounds wonderful sarge...dunno how I'd feel about putting deep heat on it, (and even then it should go without saying only if it's completely closed).
I'm "back" at work after a week off, but since I spent it sitting where I'm sitting right now for work, it was a bit of a mixed feeling...
Much to catch up on though, so better get to it...

Yeah - probably not the best idea.... but I have experience of the torture of an unscratchable itch!

Neither can I. And it came pre-installed on the modem/router they sent me. I called this afternoon and got them to turn it off. Now I can get to the Watch again without dire warnings about how y'all are going to steal all my financial information...Sorus wrote:Can you turn McAfee off? I also had no trouble downloading/installing the stuff I'd purchased from Daz 3D about a week ago. And it took a *lot* less time than it did when I was tethering the laptop to my phone. Like, hours less time.
In the interim, I turned on the built-in Windows 10 virus blocker, which I guess worked okay. But I'll be happy to have AVG back.

Buck of the dawn got married on Saturday (If I refer in the future to Doe of the dawn, that will be his wife) and Stag of the dawn and I got to watch on Zoom. Which was heartbreaking but happy, both.
Followed by another busy, crazy week. I am trying to figure out how I can take some time off from EVERYTHING. It's almost impossible in this country, and in my line of work (5:30 am yesterday, I had a fire to put out, which thankfully had its comical aspects: a teacher posted a happy birthday message to a 3rd grader on WhatsApp with a Bitmoji-type unicorn giving the middle finger. She just hadn't looked at it carefully!)
And then I had to run around looking for medicine for my friend, which in the end cost about 75 cents, for filaria; a horrifying condition that causes unbearable suffering.
This was all before the work day began. Lol.
I saw a news story about Nigeria being wild-polio free and it made me happy; a few years ago Nigeria was responsible for 90% of the world's polio cases. I posted on FB and of course, an anti-vax friend had to take exception. On my way home from school, I saw a man moving along across a busy intersection on his hands and seat, his skinny legs pretzel-style. I wasn't going to respond but after seeing that, I had to. I'd like to make her and him sit down and figure it out together.
So, today.... more busy, busy, busy, but I do go home before dark and read and watch mindless TV (current binge is Blacklist Season 3). (Reading Children of Hurin, an actual book with beautiful illustrations, which is a nice change from the Kindle.)
Have a great day everyone!! <3
