Well, you've only been here almost 20 years. You can't expect to notice everything all at once.

There's a chance I'd remember if someone has the same birthday as me. But I sure wouldn't bet on it.

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Avatar, StevieG, Fist and Faith, and Menolly! The big six-oh weekend for me was a satisfying experience, dining out at an Irish-themed pub with friends, playing billiards, then going on a camping trip in the soothingly cool mountain forest of eastern Arizona, drinking wine and enjoying the gentle steady rains. Cheers!

What kind of "billiards"? (People often have vastly different games behind their use of the term...) :D

I'm referring to a three-way pool hall game known as "cutthroat". One player has pool balls1-5, the second player has pool balls 7-10, and the third player has pool balls 11-15. The objective is to shoot all the balls of your opponents into pockets before all your pool balls are shot into pockets. If a player "scratches" (accidentally sinks the white cue ball into a pocket), then each opponent gets to put one of his/her pool balls back upon the billiard 🎱 table.

Ah, not familiar with that one. :D But I would still call it "pool" rather than "billiards."

To me, billiards is 2 white cue balls, (1 of them "spotted") and 1 red ball, with points for cannon shots and pocketing balls. :D

(When it comes to pool I mainly only play 8-ball.)

Ah, I see. Where I live, "pool" and "billiards" are used interchangeably, but "pool" is more commonly used.

Interesting!

In the day when I had friends who played pool and billiards, they were differentiated the way Av does it. I know South Florida is quite a ways from where CH is, but I would have thought the customs within the US would have remained more similar.
