Spring has truly sprung in Africa.

Verdant life is bursting from every bud, branch and bough.

The air almost sparks with the expectant tang that heralds the arrival of the Highveldt thunder-storms, and everything seems new-made and beautiful in the light of each dawn.

Temperatures are averaging out at 28-30 degrees Celsius and we're enjoying the 8-10 sunlight hours on average that we get every day summer or winter.

Aah, I love living in Africa! I've tried a few other places around the world, but I know in my heart that this is the only place for me.

As one of our greatest poets, Oswald Mbuyiseni Mtshali suggested; if you but once feel the reverberations of the Cowhide Drum which sounds the heart-beat of Africa, it's rythm lives forever in your soul.

It's a great day.

Take it easy folks

It's been beautiful here too, the last couple of weeks. October is my favorite month. Summertime in Texas can be quite a miserable experience at the best of times......when it's bad, it can feel like Hell on Earth. The sky loses all it's color, all the (nominal) greenery turns yellowish brown, and there seems to be an eternal haze of humidity and pollution over the metropolitan areas. Many days you can't walk from your house to your car without getting a grimyslimy layer of gook leaking out of your pores to mingle with the greasyslimy damp that hangs in the air all around you. Your electric bill tends to run over $200 a month so you can sit in your house, damp and wilting, and praying for night to come, when that abominable sun will stop beating down on your roof.......

But then comes October.... :D :D :D The air has lost most of the heat, as well as that wet heat shimmer, the sky suddenly seems much farther away, and regains a beautiful cerulean blue......the trees turn orange, and yellow, and red, and the grass turns green again......there are some storms, and the whole world feels washed and clean and new. Like a drink of cold water after a long, thirsty night in a jungle.... it's just gorgeous.

And it has Halloween! My favorite holiday..... :D :D

A more perfect description of Houston weather I have never witnessed in my life.

It's true that October is usually pretty decent...There's usually 1-3 weeks in which we get to experience decent temperatures, then winter begins to strike at unpredictable intervals freezing plants, killing trees, and bursting pipes. Then next year it gets hot again. On the bright side, it's sometimes fun being able to go outside in short sleeve shirts knowing that everything north of you is blanketed in white hell. :D

ooo sounds nice.... (8O remind me never to visit Texas.)

The constant grey of a Scottish autumn/winter (and spring and summer) is beginning to get me down :( . I'm even contemplating a visit to the parentals, who, living in southern england, at least get some sun. Oh dear god what am I saying? the eternal dank must be affecting my thought processes. I am now thinking of converting to worshipping Helios the Sun God. Now all I need to do is find some sacrificial victims...

It snowed here two days ago. Not just a little either... The snowplows were out and such. Today though I could probably go out in a t-shirt.

A friend just moved here from Vegas... he was so proud that he made a snowball!

I can't remember how long it's been since I made a snowball... If it was possible to make drizzleballs, I'd be a pro.

in Texas: we're back to "hot as hell" temperatures. Winter decided not to strike yet, so summer is still hanging on.

ooooo 8O its about to snow for the first time this winter... the bbc weather man says so...
And it is absolutely bloody cold, (eek).
I'm reliably informed it has already snowed in Manchester and other parts of northern england. So, I'm waiting with baited woolly hats and gloves and breath. I hope we get enough so I can build a wee snowman or at least enough to make snowballs to randomly throw at passing strangers.

Don't worry, I shall keep you all informed on a minute by minute basis as to how this riveting situation develops.

Now back to our regularly scheduled broadcasts...

It snowed on Friday, but it's all long gone now. No doubt Claire wouldn't even consider it snow :P

We had snow last week, but it's all gone now. Now we're heading into a wet, warmer-than-usual Thanksgiving.

still quite warm here, though we've had to deal with this foolish rain making things wet...

It didn't snow at all, though I did nearly kill myself three times slipping on the ice whilst walking to work the next day.
