Hello i've been registered for a month or so........ i think, but i've only really begun to use the site. Good to see so much hardcore Donaldson fans though, his books literally changed my life. I had never been interested in reading for pleasure until i read LFB, and even then it was just to help me get tired at bedtime. But it changed my view completely, and i'm now definitely a bookworm, so to speak. Good to meet you all.

Hmmmmm....
People who won't shake their heads when I admit that I stopped counting how many times I read the first chronicles after it topped 40...and who won't tell me that the words being used in the book aren't being used correctly (one time it was "sarcasm *doesn't* drip"). I might be able to get used to that.....
Had to take the entire series of books out of the whole "which do you like more" category and into a category I call "it's a part of my life and that's that" where I stuff things like Trek, Tolkien and B5...and other stuff that can't be ranked.....
Now can anybody tell me when the second book is coming out? I knew that I should have waited a few more years to get the new book. The gap between "The Wounded Land" and "The One Tree" was horrible.... and the gap before "White Gold Wielder" was nearly intolerable..... After some 20 years, I was helpless to stop myself and I'm trying to take my time in reading Runes, but I can't stop myself..... How long will I have to wait before the second...and the third...and the fourth?
At least the LOTR movie was finished before they released it, so I *knew* when the next was coming.... <whine> I'm not getting any younger and the world isn't getting any safer..... What if something happens to me? What if something happens to him? What if something happens to the world and mass publishing is no longer possible.... AHHHHHHH!!!!!! Somebody stop me!!!!!
<whimper>
How long will I have to wait?
(please note that I'm not even contemplating asking about a movie...since I never really thought it possible until I saw what TPTB was able to do with LOTR...but I still think the technology isn't good enough yet)

Welcome to the Watch, DarkStar;
Welcome Whole or Hurt,
in Boon or Bane,
to Ask, or Give.
Plenty of interesting discussions for you to jump into, I hope you enjoy yourself.
I can't swear to it, but I think ten years are predicted from Runes to the last of the final chronicles. I'm sure you'll survive, you've waited so long already, whats ten more years?
Have fun

10 Years?!?
<sniffle>
What's 10 more years? Oh lordy...I won't have a hair left in my head.... 10 years to a 10 year old is forever...but multiply 10 years by...oh...3 or 4 times and 10 years is barely one bat of an eyelash.....
Oh well...sanity is probably overrated anyway....
Fortunately, I can waste a little of that time looking at all the cute (and some rather strange) little emoticons. That will take...ohhh...10 minutes. Now I just have to find something to distract me the rest of the time.....

Another newbie to the forum
If the Stephen R. Donaldson website hadn't been listed in the back of the "Runes" book, I never would have found you guys...now here you are
I started reading SRD probably back in 1981 or 1982, I think, just when Ballentine had released the paperback versions of the series. I read the First Chronicles pretty much once a year for about 10 or so years. I was a sophomore in high school at the time, or thereabouts. It's a pity that there aren't more wonderful books like these (as the dust jacket says, "it will certainly find a place on the small list of true classics"). But then if there were more, perhaps we would take them for granted.
I always loved the intensity of the original "Covenant" series, although my mother had a problem with my saying "Hellfire" every time I disagreed with her (just kidding, ma
). Having been born with very mild Cerebral Palsy and being socially very awkward, I could relate to the pariah status of Covenant in the first Chronicles.
I loved his short story collections, "Daughter of Regals" and "Reave the Just". He makes a wonderful short story writer as well.
I have to admit, however, that I found myself very disappointed in the second Covenant series...the intensity of Covenant just wasn't there for me somehow. Maybe the series had gotten too old for me, or the newness of the series had worn off. I vaguely recall one scene where Covenant went around hugging people, and I almost put the book down thinking, "He wouldn't do that!" Therefore I was a bit wary of getting "Runes", but now that I've picked it up I can't put it down. The flame is back, and burning bright. Hurrah the new series. Now, just when is the next book coming out
?
By way of background, I am a librarian working for a corporation that does airport consulting. I live in San Jose, California, and grew up in Santa Barbara. My mother gave me a copy of Kafka's "the Metamorphosis" when I was sixteen, and I've been hooked on Kafka ever since
, to the point of making him the focus of my major in college. Kafka, Tolkien, SRD, Stephen King and Shakespeare are my favorite writers. I have a B.A. from UC Santa Cruz and a Master's in Library Science from San Jose State. I love to write but haven't finished anything that is publishable...yet. I hope someday to do so.
I'm glad to find you guys. It's my first day here, and boy, is it great to have finally arrived!
Bill
