In any case, my name is Adam, and I am nineteen! Hello everyone! I've spent the last month or so lurking here, and finally decided to post out of boredom, delerium, hunger *waiting for dinner to arrive*, or a peculiar combination of those.

In short, I have no idea, but I'm here, so I'll make the best of it.

My father had told me a lot about the Thomas Covenant books for years, and when we moved, when I was 15, we found both boxed sets in our attic among lesser books. (And all books are indeed diminished in the presence of these!) They were the original paperback versions, to my knowledge, with the overly colourful covers, but I read a lot, and eventually read them, and fell in love with the Land, and the complexity of the stories of both. Since then I've read SRD's Gap cycle and Gilden Fire...

So it happened that this Christmas, I was in Barnes and Noble, and, to my surprise, looking through the Science Fiction and Fantasy section, a hardback with "Stephen R. Donaldson" in large, friendly white letters on its side. Upon looking closer, I saw "Runes of the Earth". Rather curious, as, since I haven't seen any books of his in a bookstore before, I pulled it out and almost fell over when "The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" was emblazoned on the top of its cover.

I bought it immediately. It was my only purchase, as I couldn't really find any other books worthy of being bought alongside it.

So it came that I I randomly decided to Google for Thomas Covenant things and came across this!

And after lurking, I'm here.

I'm an artist, delving in the mediums of pencil/charcoal and oils, and do a bit of writing myself as a side-hobby, but primarily I do freelance work. I live in Birmingham, Alabama, though I inherit very little of the drawl of speech that most people have here, thank god.

It's nice to meet you all, though! I'm sorry this was rather long and boring. O.o

I love the Nightmare Before Christmas *has a movie poster of such in his bedroom* and so the name is really, really indirectly inspired by it.

It gave my friend and I the idea an idea of a race of sentient pumpkins, so we came up with an enemy for a pumpkin king, a race of munchkins that are afraid of most anything, including themselves. The Pumpkin King wages war with the munchkins simply because he enjoys scaring them, and kills them at the exact rate of their gestation (They have a gestation period of approximately five and a half minutes) simply so there's munchkins left to fear him.

He's not so much malicious as easily amused, and since he just happens to be an evil warlord, this is his way of amusing himself.

...Yeah. I have issues.

I lived in a little place called Alexandria. I found it quite dreadful, actually. I didn't exactly fit in. *cough*

Alexandria, huh? LOL.....that makes Anniston look down right citified! I can imagine how you felt. It is pretty out there, I'll say that for it but it's really building up with subdivisions and stuff so the rural charm will be gone in a few years and that's kind of sad.

*nods* It was pretty...it just wasn't fun being forced to read books five or six grade levels below yours for summer reading in English classes at school. O.O

And, things seemed to get more populated and civil-seeming when one got closer to Jacksonville, Ohatchee, and Lenlock... And, of course, Anniston itself.

I live in Moody now, if you know where that is. Kind of next to Leeds...east of Birmingham proper, but still close enough to be considered part of it. (Five minutes of driving is really nothing =P)

Really, I think Alabama's strongest asset (For what assets it has ) is, as far as its geography and fauna goes, it's quite a beautiful place.

We just don't get snow. I envy those that do. We instead get LOTS OF HUMIDITY. >.<

Oh--and, thanks for everyone that responded to this! This place is so very friendly. O.O; I've never been to a forum in which everyone is such to this degree. It's overwhelming, in a forum-sort-of-way. Hail all!

Our summers feel similar to what rainforests are like. Somewhat hot, but extremely humid. Very rarely have I experienced normal "dry heat".

Only Alabama isn't a rainforest. At all.

So, some snow would be nice...
