I was in 5th or 6th grade, so maybe 11-12 years old?

I was in high school, about tenth grade, so I would have been about 14. The Wounded Land was a new book then, and I remember waiting impatiently for The One Tree to come out in paperback so I could buy it. (I was too poor to buy the hardcover and it was never available in the library!)

Hi, there...

I'm new to the forum, although I've been lurking for months now. I had no idea there was such a place for Donaldson fans until I stumbled across it. What a delight!

I first read the Chronicles back when I was about 14 or so. I recall having to keep a dictionary close at hand to decipher some of Donaldson's more elaborate words :) It probably wasn't the best choice of books for a young person to read at the time, but at least it helped build my vocabulary :D

I met Mr. Donaldson briefly back in 1996 at a book signing at GenCon that year. I had no idea he was going to even be there, so I had to buy one of the last of his books at the bookstore across the street so he could sign it! It was an honor and a privilege just to be able to meet the man for even a brief period of time. I found him to be friendly and personable, despite the fact that the line for autographs stretched behind me for quite a ways!

I'm looking forward to discussing Mr. Donaldson's work with all of you. Thanks again for such a wonderful forum!

I had my trusty dictionary by my side when I read it the first time, too! It truly was a great vocabulary builder. I think many a young fantasy fan probably did much better on the SAT/ACT exams thanks to Mr. Donaldson!

We met at UC Berkeley -- she was getting a masters and I a phd. We actually sat at opposite desks in a little tiny office for a couple years and completely ignored each other. Then we were both on internships in houston and went salsa dancing. Ole!

I became a member a week ago while trying to find a site that would say when the next book is coming out. Anybody heard yet????????????????

I first read the chrons at age 22 in 1988 and read them a second immediately. Talk about a can't-put-down book(s)!!!! Now I've got to read them again after finishing Runes, just to brush up.

Anyway, great site I've visited about everyday after my first visit.
Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!

Stoned Downer. Awesome. Welcome.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Hi all! Just found this forum by chance whilst submitting some suitably grovelling fanmail on Stephen Donaldson's website. It's great to see a community of TC lovers!
It's easy to laugh...it's easy to hate
It takes guts to be gentle and kind.....
