bit abou my self

Post by bloodguard »

hi im new to this site i am 20yrs old. and first read the chronicles about 3 years ago and thought they were great i soon got the 2nd chronicles and read those. after theses i purchased and read both mordants need books which were also great. i have since re-read these 8 books and i must say they were just as exciting as when i first read them. i just love these books. i am quite a big fantasy fan and like a little sci fi for example the dune novels which i have read although the first book was great the others were a bit of a let down.. i have just finished runes of earth and although i have heard alot of criticism i thought it was a great book the only problem is the wait for the remaining books last one due in 2013 or thereabouts i cant stand the wait having never had to wait anylength of time for a book(except Harry Potter which i had to read but that doesnt count) anyway i have just started the sword of Shannara By terry brooks . who ever has read it please let me know what you think but no spoilers at the mo please.

Sorry bout the name, all the best ones where already taken but this will do fine for now

Welcome! Bloodguard! Before I say anything about Shannara the real question is have you read the Lord of the Rings yet (this is a very pertinent question)? 8)

Yes there are (a story goes that TB wanted to write a sequel to LOTR but couldn't get the rights, some feel his series is a blatant ripoff). I enjoyed The Sword of Shanarra before I read LOTR, long ago, after that most of Mr. Brook's books have fallen flat. At one point I wanted to name a child after one of the characters--can you guess which one? 8)

i have only read the first few chapters but i am guessing you were going to name after either shea or allanon. probably shea. Anyway thanks for the info i have decided to just reshelf the shannara trilogy for the time being and will maybe read them at a later date instead i have just ordered the first 4 books of the gap series from amazon for £16 (british) which i think is alright although they are all used but supposed to be in good condition. Anyway they will add to my stephen donaldson collection. so i am just going to take a few days off reading untill they arrive and start on them. i am actually a bit excited about it because the only other sci fi books i have read as mentioned earlier is the dune novels so i cant wait to compare them. even though i dont have the books anymore becaue my girlfriend threw them and also 6 riftwar saga books by raymond e. feist out by mistake although she completely denies it. anyway sorry to ramble on. but what did you make of the gap series?

The beginning of the Gap is pretty brutal, but once you get going it's awesome--I used to be much more into SciFi than Fantasy--I've read tons and the Gap Sequence is one of THE best SciFi series out there. Well you were close it was Allanon--but I later found out that a support group that works in conjunction with Alcoholics Anonymous goes by the same name... :P

Welcome bloodguard. Nice to have another Haruchai onboard. *fractional nod*

I enjoyed Sword, Elfstones, and Wishsong quite a bit. Nothing beyond that did anything for me, though, so I stopped reading after the Scions books.
