It's been 24 years...
...but finally I've found a Thomas Covenant forum!
I read The First Chronicles back in the summer of 1981 and was stunned by it. It was such a beautiful, awesome, yet very sad and tragic book; and i was an avid fan for many years.
But then, through the 80's and 90's, lots of other fantasy fiction flooded the market, and the Chronicles, though famous in it's day, never seemed to get the lasting recognition it deserved, unlike, for example, Lord of the Rings, which (rightly) gained an ever stronger hold on the imagination of our society until it became accepted as a classic. (It's even on school syllabuses these days, I'm told! When i was at school it was still a cult fringe).
Yet to my mind Chronicles is the equal of Lord of the Rings. Rings is the Daddy, of course, but in some areas Chronicles even surpasses that. And no fantasy that I've read or seen since has come close filling me with the same wonder as this one. Not Shannara, not The Belgariad, not Harry Potter.
So it's great to find this forum after all this time. I think it's about time I read the books again!
